Seems to me they've taken folks who are confused because they're impressionable and unwise -because they're young- and treating it as an illness. But either way, a better solution is the one we all agreed on a decade ago- consenting adults.

The current position of the progressive left as it related to gender dysphoria and the appropriate actions and acceptable medical recommendations is absolutely madness.

Somebody that has personally experienced and been exposed to non-traditional sexuality identification, whom worked for years in an office that dealt first hand with gender dysphoria and applied treatments, including exposure to followup treatments, patient impacts, their emotional needs....

right right right... Just some joe-blow who only has anecdotes

In theory its only when you want a medical transition that they are required to first go through "Counseling, therapy, guidance" first. In practice the skip or at best skim through that part. Really the only mental disorder where the patient pretty much makes the diagnosis.

What is the appropriate treatment for a false belief or judgment about external reality?

The external reality is that medical science cannot convert a male into a female or vise versa. Surgery can at best only produce a costume.

Why then would the treatment be to pretend to alter the external reality? Doesn't the patient eventually become dissatisfied with the failure to alter the external reality? What happens if the patient eventually realizes the the treatment was to simply patronize a false belief? What then?

Would you want to come to the conclusion that people have been lying to you to make you feel happy? How invalidating is that, in truth?

Isn't that what conservatives thought like 10 years ago? Funny how they always find out they're wrong on social issues later, and move on to their next victim.

I think the article author probably means well, but is arrogant in thinking she knows better than the doctors and believes that because she doesn't understand the literature on the subject, it doesn't exist. Seeing a bad result, or a side effect, doesn't prove a net harm. Anecdotes can prove risks exist, but not the risk:benefit ratio.

With no demonstrable benefit, the existence of risk reveals the risk benefit ratio.

Of course there's a potential benefit. Hard to measure "distress" but suicide rates are one thing that can be measured. The control group being untreated persons who claim gender dysphoria, not the general population. Guess conservative states may give us control groups that would otherwise be unethical to obtain...

Soooo wheres the benefit other than the one you have imagined? Did you have some study that shows a suicide rate HIGHER than 19 times that of the population for those transgenders who have not received medical treatment?

Doctors at "pediatric gender clinic" could lose their licenses: official

'“We have received disturbing allegations that individuals at the Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital have been harming hundreds of children each year, including by using experimental drugs on them. We take this evidence seriously and are thoroughly investigating to make sure children are not harmed by individuals who may be more concerned with a radical social agenda than the health of children.”

Good. Hold them accountable for the harm they have caused.

'Sheila Solon, director at the state’s Division of Professional Registration, noted that the medical professionals involved in this scandal may lose their professional licenses.'

“The Division of Professional Registration and its 41 licensing boards license over 525,000 Missourians in more than 300 professions,” Solon said. “Importantly, the Division and its boards’ mission is the protection of the public, especially those most vulnerable.”

“The Division’s licensing boards will investigate the complaints they receive as part of this investigation, and take any necessary action against the licenses of Missouri professionals in violation of the boards’ statutory and regulatory authority to ensure health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Missouri,” she added.

'This is a sickening account of forced sterilization and child abuse. Happening in Missouri at an institution that receives federal taxpayer funds. Today my office is launching an investigation. Missouri children deserve to be protected' ~Josh Hawley.

The left will pretend this stuff isn’t happening. They support it with thier turning a blind eye.

“Try not to commit suicide before you turn 18!” ?

“Yes, little Johnny…er ah, Janey, we have the drugs and treatments that would help alleviate your ‘condition’, but you’ll have to reach the age of majority to avail yourself of them. In the meantime, try not to provoke the bullies and tough it out!”

If it was a heart defect they’d be rushed into surgery ASAP.

    No just don't castrate them.

    Leave them be.

Just like how we shouldn't do conversion therapy we shouldn't intervene. Is people grow up they will figure it out and they will make the decision when they're adults like I had the privilege of being able to do I don't know why you want to steal that away from people

"When a female takes testosterone, the profound and permanent effects of the hormone can be seen in a matter of months. Voices drop, beards sprout, body fat is redistributed. Sexual interest explodes, aggression increases, and mood can be unpredictable. Our patients were told about some side effects, including sterility. But after working at the center, I came to believe that teenagers are simply not capable of fully grasping what it means to make the decision to become infertile while still a minor."

I would agree, females taking hormones is riskier than males taking hormone blockers as less able to reverse it - one can wait, the other can not

now just preventing puberty for the girls would be fine, they can then decide when 18

but actually giving the hormone to induce puberty in one direction or the other can not be reversed

postponing puberty until 18 when they can decide for themselves, I am fine with that
