    Refer to post 426:

I am assuming you think that George Washington should be played by a white man in Hamilton, yes? Currently, George Washingon is played by a black man in Hamilton. Last I checked, Washington was white.

Should George Washington be played by a black man? Yes or no?

Maybe in a school show when you don't have enough white actors, similar to how boys play female parts in plays at single sex schools.

That's a false analogy. America is majority white. It's about 60% white, compared to 13% black. Therefore, there are more whites to pick from than black. Hence, it's not the same as a mostly black school that can't fill the parts for white actors and have to make due. In fact, it went out of its way to discriminate against whites in his auditions. Moreover, on the point about there only be 13% blacks as compared to 60% whites, wouldn't that be an argument for white people playing the parts of blacks, since there are more whites than blacks in America?

Our friend @MuchAdo appears to have implied that blacks, such as Obama and Michael Jordon, should be cast by only black people, because they are real people. I want to follow up on that to see if they are okay with black people playing the part of real white people. Let's see if they are consistent.

I don't have a problem with a school in Maine that's short on black students using a white student for a black role. You use what you have. My point was that this is clearly not the case for large budget studios that can hire pretty much anyone, in any country on the planet.

It seems you are okay with white people playing black roles in a very limited context, such as a mostly white school. But it appears you are saying the same should not apply for, say, large-budget studios. But where is your opinion on Hamilton, in which a black man plays the role of George Washington, a real white man. Certainly, you would agree that the producers of Hamilton don't fall under the same constraints as a mostly black or mostly white school and therefore don't have that excuse.

Currently, a black person plays the role of George Washington. Is that okay? Yes or no? And why?

Welp, Jesus has been portrayed by European men, so why not?

Casting a Hispanic actress as the fictional story character Snow White is in no way marginalizing, oppressing, or otherwise victimizing white people.

As far as historical dramas based on real people from history, I prefer as much accuracy as possible. A lot of history is troubling and racist and it should be represented as honestly and accurately as possible.

I’m not bothered by Washington being played by a black actor in a musical. Musicals are more for entertainment. I know that Les Miserables has been produced all over the world and is based on real happenings. When it is presented in Japan, the actors portraying French people are Japanese, in South America - South American actors and so forth. It’s not ant-whiteness.

I can't even remember the last time I've seen an actual Middle Eastern person play Jesus or Moses. I don't think I've even ever seen an Egyptian person play Ramses.

If you look at the racial wealth gap, mortgage denial rates, Covid-19 vaccination and illness rates, police violence and a whole bunch of other things, one can see plenty of systemic biases against Black Americans and other minority groups. Is there similar widespread evidence for anti-white discrimination? Why on Earth are you claiming there is a culture of anti-whiteness in the US. There isn’t and a few examples of black actors being cast as ‘white’ people does not translate into a culture of anything. White Americans are not the victims of racial discrimination.

I can't say I am shocked by the hypocrisy.

I think we can have sufficient grounds to henceforth not take you seriously in this discussion.

This is changing the subject. The point of this thread is a cultural movement to de-white our culture. Snow White is but the latest example to de-white American culture. But there are others, such as in Hamilton, where they were actively discriminating against white people:

When Passion of the Christ was being made, did the production company put out any ads that said something to the effect of, "Seeking WHITE men for the role of Jesus Christ?" If not, this is a false equivalency, a form of sophistry, in which you are engaging. So, either furnish proof that the producers of Passion of the Christ had such an ad, or admit to your duplicity.

I can’t say that I am shocked that you cut out part of my post to totally misrepresent what I said.

So I think we can have sufficient grounds to henceforth not take you seriously in this discussion.

    Hahahahahaha.

Conservatives are such little whimps. My God. What is wrong with you?

They are literally crying over children's cartoons!

In 2015, they used to mock the RadFems of Tumblr for behaving this way and now they have become just like them.

Fully grown men crying over The Little Mermaid, Snow White and Barbie.

    Pathetic.

Edoit: I actually love Disney, but find Disney adults to be cringe and Conservatives are acting exactly like them.

It seems the hole you dug for yourself was not deep enough. It seems there's not enough egg on your face, so you implore for more egg on your face while you dig a deeper hole.

    Fine. I'll bite.

How exactly did I misrepresent what you said? You wrote an absolute statement:

You used the word "absolutely." In other words, even if it is a musical, Obama, for example, should not be betrayed by anyone except a black person.

Later on, you wrote this about George Washington, a real person, being played by a black actor:

So, when it comes to real black people, according to you, they "absolutely should be portrayed properly" racially. However, when it comes to Washington, you contradicted your absolute statement about real people--at least real white people--being portrayed properly racially by actors.

So, how exactly did I misrepresent you? Is it because I did not quote the full paragraph in which you made that contradiction? Well, fine, I'll quote the full paragraph:

You appear to be suggesting that it is okay for George Washington to be portrayed by a black actor because it is a musical. Then you compare Hamilton to Les Miserables. But that's a false analogy, as Jean Valjean is not a real person. He never existed. Like Snow White, he is a work of fiction. George Washington is a real person. Therefore, the analogy falls flat.

But let's dig deeper on musicals. Let me ask you this question, since you made such a qualification. If there was a musical about Michael Jordon, Martin Luther King Jr, Barack Obama or Cassius Marcellus Jr., is it okay for the actor playing any of those roles to be white?

Why is it okay to de-Middle Eastern our culture? You are obviously fine with that. And, no, it isn't a change of subject. It is just exposing your hypocrisy. You have no consistent position here.

Why are you denying that Jesus and Moses were real people?

And if your concern is about the topic . . . why change the topic from fictional characters to historical ones? And why rage when people bring up OTHER historical figures after you've done so? You are all over the place, bud.

How do you know Jesus wasn't white? Were either of their races described in the Bible?

Do you believe Jesus walked on water, turned water into wine, and rose bodily from the dead?

Lol, dude, his genealogy is given in the Bible. I have as much reason to believe that Jesus was European as I do for believing Washington was black, bud. Same goes for you.

His race is not given in the Bible. It's silly to think that Jesus can walk on water, turn water into wine, and be raised bodily from the dead, but he absolutely, positively had to NOT be white. It's absurd. Furthermore, having a white man play Jesus is not an attempt to "de-Middle Eastern" our culture, even if Jesus was not white. It's a false analogy to compare a white man playing Jesus to a black man playing Hamilton or a Hispanic playing Snow White? Why? Because intention matters. Since you've given me the opportunity to post this image again, I'll do so again:

The intention is to NOT cast white people in stories in which a white person filled that role, even if the stories are about real white people, like George Washington. With Snow White and The Little Mermaid, they are purposely recasting these stories by specifically casting non-white actors. It stems from the logic of affirmative action. Hamilton is the more explicit example, as they had a casting call that specially said, "Seeking NON-WHITE men and women." I even brought up the racist Hamilton casting call and you conveniently ignored it. I wonder why.

His ethnicity absolutely is. No one, aside from a few neo-Nazis I've met, is dumb enough to think Jesus was European.

Plenty of myths have been spread about Washington. According to your "logic," that means we should just pretend he has no established race. And you don't actually think intention matters. Otherwise you would be willing to consider opposite examples. You are completely unwilling to do so.

Jesus was just as white as Washington was black. Deal with it. The facts don't care about your race-obsessed feelings.

I can’t help but wonder what might change if we were more mindful that the person Christians celebrate as God in the flesh and saviour of the entire world was not a white man, but a Middle Eastern Jew
