http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,4578662,00.html This can lead to the East German shipbuilding industry getting saved. I hope for the best.
Yes, Napoleon did not want to believe it Russia and Germany are working on a solution about the European General Motors activities meanwhile, but it takes longer, because the US has to agree, General Motors is kinda run by the US government meanwhile.
That is why the USA trys to create sanitary border between Germany and Russia. By putting unfriendly to Russia politicians in the head of the countries taking place between Germany and Russia.
This seems to be a thread that cant interest many people. If they dont know where Russia or Switzerland is, then how are they to know where Wismar of the Baltic Sea is located? This thread is only interesting for east germans and one Russian businessman.
Yes, it's America's fault that former Eastern Bloc countries don't like Russia. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with being ruled by iron-fisted Russian puppets for decades could it?
It was a French plan after WWI to have these states between Russia and Germany. It was political intention. Until WWI Germany and Russia had a common borderline. Both countries had important revolutionary movement. France planned to have some kind of line of countries between Russia and Germany, this partially explains the European map of today and the character of these countries after WWI. France was successful with this plan, but it fired back at them, when these new semi-fascist countries became Hitler's allies in WWII (with the exception of Poland and the Czech Republic). The US later planned to divide Europe, this was the "old" and "new" Europe thing. This was done by diplomacy and economical "incentives" for East European countries. The former East Bloc countries have politicians, who don't like Russia, which are sometimes the same, who don't like Germany. This has to do with nationalism in these countries and with American influence. The people there may see these things very different. There are historical animosities between Russian people and Polish people, which go back to the times of the Czar. There are animosities between Russian people and Ukrainian people, which are rather new.
It's "Ami, go home" here. It means their military and their politicial influence, not Americans as people. It's a nice song, too.
Actually this is wrong. The plan was to divide power over the countries yes... but.... the Yalta conference. During the conference Churchill, and Roosevelt both tried to talk Stalin into holding elections over future Government in the soon to be Soviet Satellite states. This was also the start of the Cold War. The only thing they agreed on was the United Nations.
4.12.1944 British troops shot a demonstration of Greeks and 5.12.1944 attacked guerrillas-antifascists controlled the major part of Athens.British used air power and heavy weapons.Street battles continued till January,11,1945 - that is how Churchill and Roosevelt held elections in their zone of influence.
What is wrong? The Yalta conference was WWII, not WWI. The "old" and "new" Europe concept was from 2003.
MY BAD! lol I misread. You may be right, Idk much about post WW1 Politics outside of Germany, and the United States (done some Mein Kampf reports in my day).
How does the fact that Germany and Russia divided Poland between them prior to WW1 mitigate Russia's responsibility for oppressing Eastern Europe during the Soviet era? Eastern European countries don't trust Russia because they lived under brutal Russian puppet regimes.
It's not much known, so-called cordon sanitaire was a French foreign policy approach almost 100 years ago. The use of the term sanitary border earlier in this thread made me think of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordon_sanitaire
Poland was an oppressive country after WWI, they occupied a lot of land in the East, they drove like 1 million Germans away from this country, they were nationalist and semi-fascist. They had problems with Germany and the Soviet Union, they allied with France. Poland was oppressive. The Soviet Union stopped this nonsense like they did in a few other countries. Some Polish politicians still have to get over this. This is not "say something stupid" day today. These were no puppet regimes, in fact, the East European countries decided a lot of things by themselves. Brutal? Don't you Americans like brutality with all your action movies and with calling your troops heros and so? These things are brutal, East European countries were not.
Yes, yes tell to me fairy tales about Russian tyranny. Because I'm naive like a child. Speaking about sanitary border, I speak about puppet politicians in the countries of the East Europe which create obstacles for trade between Russia and the countries old of Europe. Which under different pretexts create an obstacle for building of " North stream " and so on. I do not mean ordinary Poles or Latvians which have relatives in Russia and come here for a visit. Interesting thing! Finland was a part of Russian empire and the USSR was at war against it. But Finland is not included into Sanitary border. May be this is because the Finnish politicians are more independent and do not receive a handout from Washington? Other interesting thing! There is no any sanitary border in Central Asia. The Central Asian republics have suffered under awful Russian tyranny too. Why there is no sanitary border? May be this is because the USA does not need sanitary border in Central Asia? Or the USA were not successful there? Ask these questions yourself and think of the answers.
Right, all the East Germans fleeing their oppressive puppet government was damaging to the East German economy. I definitely agree with that.
West Germany recovered faster after WWII, partially because of the Marshall-Plan, this made many people think about moving to West Germany. This happened before, part of my family was from East Prussia, and there were not many people left in this family in this region from the twenties, when people went West. It happened in the ninetees, too.
