Just giving untrained, undisciplined people weapons is a recipe for disaster if there is no outward enemy to point them at. We should encourage such behavior, it will save us tons in ammunition and other ordinance.
I want the cuts because a) I think it's time America stopped being the world's police, and b) I think the budget should be balanced as fast as possible (in reverse order of importance).
Let me put it this way. Were having all sorts of trouble in Iraq because roughly 55k untrained but armed people don`t want use there. Now multiply that problem by about TEN THOUSAND and you would have the situation we would be encountering in China.
The Chinese, Iranians, North Koreans, Russians, and others live with the knowledge that the United States has a fleet of Ohio-class, MIRV-equipped, nuclear submarines that run "picket" off their coasts 24/7.... Indeed, they do "run silent, run deep", and they never "make news" or anything untidy like that. They don't have to.... If there ever were a genuine threat poised against the United States, and force were used against us, the reaction would result in the complete annihilation of an aggressor. We know it; they know it.... So, yeah, don't worry too much about a Chinese flattop, especially if it's made like a lot of the crap they export to our hardware stores.... BTW, we have 12 aircraft carriers, with two more in construction. Our flattops are, in today's argot, very "badassss"!
We wouldn't invade China, there is no need, destabilizing the country would be more effective, there is nothing there we need or want. You fight the Chinese from afar, where their numbers are meaningless.

I'm willing to slash the military budget, but not for the reasons you want. I am willing to cut the military in order to pay down the national debt. I suspect you want to give the money to the poor and elderly, and for similar reasons. Am I right?
China's economy will go bust when the US economy does. Their only saving grace is gold, China has more gold mines than any other country and the Chinese government is investing heavily in the metal.

If the whole global economy goes to hell the North Koreans become gods, as they are already there and have nuclear weapons and a million man army.
I am just engaged here with you so I'm not following the whole thread. I want to pin you down with specificity. That's why I ask you in all sincerity what you will do with the money slashed from the military budget. I need to know this information in order to evaluate your position. Please tell me.
Can you not read? I want the money saved on defense spending to go towards shrinking expenses to balance the budget. What are you not understnding?

The average NK doesn't even own a flashlight, their economy is influenced just as heavily by the US $ as anywhere else, being that the US is their primary source for humanitarian aid.
They are functioning at a level the rest of the world would be joining in pure chaos, they would have free reign to move as they chose without anyone able to stop them. Without the US aid they would simply move south and north and take over the rice paddies of their neighbors.

They have people, trained and ready to move, that's all you need if everyone around you is in a disorganized mess.

A lot of people are under this misconception. it is possible to be racist even if you think all races are equal. Racism does not necessarily have to include superiority to be racism. If you apply intellectual/moral/emotional/ideological traits to people based on race, that is racism by definition.
Using the physical characteristics of people of another race for purposes of humor or ridicule is legitimately viewed as racist.
