(duh. typo. Title should be "How many here believe they stand a good chance of being very rich one day?" Sorry.

Do you believe you have better than a 20% chance of being among the very, very rich one day?

Please also state whether you are conservative/republican/rightie

    or a liberal/democrat/leftie.

    (Your choice of terminology)

Interestingly enough my brother worked for company for 19 years until they fired him and they never paid him squat... so he started his own company.. which he recently sold for 40 million dollars.

LOL We run in to his former bosses from time to time.. Its a gas.

    I'm unsure.

I'm in this venture currently. It has potential. I don't want to get my hopes up too high because it would suck if it failed.

I'm involved in something I like doing. Something that can make massive amounts of money at the same time. Something that's kind of proven in history. I'm involved in a long term job with no current pay... if it works out like the last one then I'm pretty massively set...

BUT I'd be happy if I just got enough money to live (and a return on my year investment with no pay). My business partners all seem to think it'll make millions and millions. I'm much more cautious than them...

So... it's possible... But I even hate saying that because I hate getting my hopes up. I enjoy doing it so some pay would be nice so I could continue it. Lots of pay would just be a bonus. :)

I'm independent but socially liberal (conservative in other areas).

Depends what you consider rich. I've definitely had an easy life... but if you are talking about millions of dollars than I would give myself a 25% chance. If you are talking about $100k+ than that has been accomplished for the past 4 years.

And I used to be a Republican, but after seeing the shift in Republican's going from the middle to the extreme right, I am now a full supporter of the Democrat party and Obama.

The Repub's are going to have to have a major shift back to the left if I will ever vote for them again. I guess Mitt is an old school Republican that I wouldn't mind as President.

Rich doesn't necessarily mean happy. Why on earth would anybody care to be rich when it makes much more sense to strive to be happy?

Some times it does.... to be able to send $100,000 in emergency supplies to Kartrina victims before FEMA shows up would be a source of happiness.= for many people.

I don't anticipate it. That said, I feel that if that were my goal, I could probably achieve it. I just prefer family life to money.

I wouldn't define happiness as disaster relief, but it's interesting that you do.

That's a very good point. In no way am I striving to be a millionaire because I think it would make me happy. I love what I do for a living and if that lead me to making millions of dollars I'd still be just as happy as I am now, except I would be taking more vacations, lol.

Assuming stable political and economic conditions, any 20 something can become wealthy merely by avoiding debt and saving/investing a small percentage of their income over their working years. Additionally, anyone can get rich quick by writing a hit song, bestselling book or popular app, inventing a useful widget, selling any number of things or doing a thousand other things well.

For myself, I think I have a fair probability of becoming wealthy. I've moved from "poor" to solidly middle class so far, and with a bit of perseverence and careful budgeting I expect to continue to move upward economically.

Yeah, that's not a bad goal. I've known lots of poor folks who were happy as clams and lots of rich folks who led miserable lives. Money's no guarantee of happiness.

"How many here believe they stand a good chance of very being rich one day?"

Hard to say. I just want the opportunity, and to be left alone by the statist progressive scum.

Studies I've seen suggest that money and happiness are linked until you get to the point where the rent is paid and the pantry is stocked. After that, social status, job satisfaction, relationships and the like are more important to happiness and more money is irrelevant.

That definitely makes a lot of sense. I guess it would be much harder to be happy when you don't have money to pay rent or purchase food. And yes, the things that make me unhappy now have nothing to do with a lack of money. That makes a lot of sense.

Most of the time people who are quite rich don't have much free time, in my observation.

Should have had a poll, me no. I don't think I can be rich under a system where money controls governments.

I don't think I'm going to be rich, but then again, some people define rich differently from others.

Some people see 6 figures as rich. Forbes doesn't.

When I use the word "rich", I'm referring to people who make at least 8 figures. Even someone that makes $1 million a year is only upper middle class.

The vast majority of people are working class (less than $100,000 a year).

Do I think I could eventually make 6 figures? Yes.

Do I expect to make 8 figures? No.

I'm civil libertarian socially and economically moderate.

You've mentioned him before - between your respites with Mahatma Ghandi and your vacationing in the Hamptons and all.

Seriously though: what type of business did your brother start and then sell?

    Regarding the OP:

I reject the premise. I don't view my future in terms of being "very very rich" - I believe that is a false paradigm. I view the potential of my future in terms of happiness.

To me - and to most - that means the ability to pursue my dreams, whether that be in business or some other venture, and not be penalized for the successes I enjoy along the way, and not be obstructed by Government in the process.

Once you get enough to be comfortable and not have to worry extensively about the bills then the vast majority of people can't find more happiness with more money. This amount varies by location but it's average is like 80-100k in the US for a family of like 4-5.

    To the title:

    No, libertarian.

I feel that I'll make enough to pay off my debts and live well while saving for retirement. Well, that's the hope anyway. The government is doing all it can to destroy America, and for whatever reason the population keeps voting in the same idiots, so who's to say.

I make about $55k right now, just me, my fiance and daughter. Last year I made 20k. In about 3 years I will be making about 100k a year, and by the time I'm 50 will likely have well over a million with 401k, savings, CDs, and stocks. I think above $250k you are very rich, especially in KY. I'm Democrat, probably stay thast way for the forseeable future.

I have a better chance at a good life under capitalism than socialism. Hands down. Just ask the Russians, Chinese, East Germans, Vietnamese, Czechs, Slovenians, Polish, Greeks, Cambodians.....who am I leaving out here?

I have a great chance of having my grandchildren becoming very rich here than anywhere else in the world. Hands down. As long as you don't take their inheritance from them. Family pass down is the best form of cohesion and wealth building in the world. It can't be done in socialist societies.
