This photo appeared Tuesday night on the Texas Border Volunteers Facebook page. It shows a torn black bra and a small purse hanging from a tree in what is said to be a “rape tree” — a place where Mexican drug cartel members and coyotes who smuggle humans across the border rape one or more of the women among them. Rape trees have been known of since at least 2009, but they tend not to feature in any discussions of comprehensive immigration reform.

Border activist Linda Vickers took the photograph near her home in Brooks County, which is in the Rio Grande Valley southwest of Corpus Christi. It is not on the border, but it is on the pathway between Hidalgo County, other border counties, and points north.

Vickers posted these comments along with the photo.

Rape tree and increase in illegal alien traffic abounds in Brooks County.

Rape trees in Brooks County are becoming overly abundant. This is not the first one I have found on my property or on surrounding ranches. Nor is it the only one I have heard about recently.

I spotted this(torn black bra and an empty little purse) across the fence on my neighbor’s property on the 13th of December. The proper authorities were called and the information passed along to law enforcement. This is way too close to my home and tackroom. Illegal alien traffic is off the chart in this area of my home. It is overwhelming and every day that passes….I feel less and less safe. In the last few weeks, this feels like a legitimate invasion that we are experiencing in Brooks County, Texas.

This is a catastrophe. Why has this been kept quite by Obama and his administration? Wait that would be a negative for the illegal alien push that Progressives have been pushing for more than 6 years. While we are at it what has become of the women that have been raped? Have they been forced into the slavery of prostitution? What of the nearly 200 violent illegal aliens that have been released by DHS? IMO. Donald Trump has it right and Obama and his Lame Stream Media have it wrong. Time to close the door on illegal entry of aliens of all stripes.

Probably no big thing to the pro illegal immigration crowd.

If people didn't have to cross the border illegally, there would be less opportunities for this to happen. Stop trying to spin this like the solution is somehow to tighten things and force more people to have to take that risk if they want to get to America.

Good, now get a days old corpse of a dog and maybe we can have a chupacabra

WHY in the blue bloody blazes would rapists have a "tree"?

"Hey let's rape this girl and leave some clues to who she was. Maybe we can have some smart Border Patrolmen catch us in his spare time."

Funny, how this picture first appears after Trump makes his speech.

You guys are AMAZING as to what you think people will believe

If they want to come here, then they come through legal channels. Mexico has tightened up their southern border, but they encourage their people to illegally enter another country. Trump said nothing wrong. Obama is the WORST president. When you have the former worst(Carter) criticizing him, you KNOW he's bad. To hell with the American people----. He lied to become president and hasn't told the truth since.

What do you mean they have to cross the border? You do know people can immigrate here legally right?

No, he does not know that. That's the problem with today's voters. Gruber was right about them.

Photo looks staged to me, but as to the wider issue, if people could come in by bus with a visa they would not need to be paying human smugglers.

That makes absolutely no sense. Tightening up the border will tend to make things like crossing the border less likely, not more likely. Now, what you should be advocating (instead of advocating not tightening up the border) is to increase the quota for legal Mexican immigrants, and to make it easier to come in legally. We should keep making it harder to come in illegally. Legal immigrants are not raped at the border.

Do rapists usually hang their victims underwear neatly from a tree for anyone to see?

Oh, I'm not denying rapes happen and many immigrant women are sold to Americans for sex slavery (supply and demand) which is also rape...but please....don't use some phony photo to point fingers............

From reading most of the posts here and throughout this forum, it becomes clear that one of two things is going to happen....

1). There will be a civil war due to the extreme differences dividing America

    or

2). The USA will simply fade into the history books and become a totally different place. Eventually a mediocre place for all. (most likely)
(And white people will slowly disappear...a Godsend by the account of many in modern America)

This is not true for most of the people who cross here illegally from Mexico. There is no legal way for most of them to immigrate here.

The "wait in line like everyone else" crowd has no idea how the legal immigration process in this country actually works.

Here's a good walkthrough, and I say this as someone who helped his wife through the immigration process and who has supervised several people going through the immigration process. http://reason.org/files/a87d1550853898a9b306ef458f116079.pdf

When we implode economically from the next bubble, and its worse here than in the great depression, as we have to cut social safety net spending, all of these disconnected people that cannot understand the nuts and bolts of survival, these superficial people who are more concerned with the right of illegals to (*)(*)(*)(*) on national sovereignty, will have to come to their senses, finally, or someone will just kill them.

When things get bad, on these pseudo social justice warriors, they will be too busy trying to survive as not to have the luxury of their vices. For it takes suffering as we saw in the great depression to return pragmatic sanity to a people gone so far off the rails.

I wish we could drop these fake modern liberals off in a 3rd world nation, to show them what happens, when the rule of law is nonexistent, in order that they wake the hell up. I am not a conservative, but a common sense FDR liberal. The kinda of liberalism we had before these disconnected people started to call themselves liberals and destroyed genuine liberalism, as they went to the extreme.

Of course not everyone can come here. 7 billion people on the planet of course there is limitations.

If they cant come here legally.. Tough (*)(*)(*)(*).

You missed the point entirely. You said these people, unskilled Mexican workers, could come here legally. They seriously can't. They are up against far more restrictions than my own ancestors were, and almost certainly more restrictions than your ancestors were.

Your new argument is also completely illogical. Demand to move here is not infinite. It has market pressures just like everything else.

The OP was accurate in that this sort of thing has been known about for a long time. Illegals have been reporting such trees from california to texas.

Some of it might be exaggerated, some of it might even be perfectly innocent such as people having consensual sex and leaving something behind ( we used to do that in high school at the local park ). However enough illegals have reported this to make it clear that some such trees maybe even a lot of them are truly a sick practice on the part of some coyotes who rape a lot of the women they smuggle across the border.

You ask why a person would leave such a clear trail or clues behind. The answers are obvious because they can and they know the likely hood of being caught is very slim. The border patrol already has little control over illegal immigration. Most coyotes simply head back to Mexico once they smuggle someone across the border and are unlikely to be touched or charged. Besides they are already criminals engaging in illegal activity so why not leave symbols behind like bragging.
The picture may be new but the story it represents is old.

Which would be a rational response if our restrictions were remotely rational.

If you had read the link I provided, it covers the people who did that. I'm talking about the Mexicans crossing the border illegally, who are mostly doing so because they are unskilled laborers. You are shifting the goalposts to something else. "It can be done as many people do it" does not apply to unskilled Mexican laborers, despite the high market demand for their work. Read the link I provided. Read up on immigration restrictions for Mexico. The paths taken by the 1 million in your link are not paths that are, by and large, available to them.

I like the free market. I think competition is good for the economy. The anti-immigration crowd typically agrees . . . until it comes to immigration and labor. Then the sense of nationalistic, collectivist entitlement kicks in.

They can come here legally, as millions have done. But it's very telling that some on the left would want to make it easier for illegal border crossers who apparently also rape women to come here. The anchor baby demographic is very important for the future of the Democrat party.
