So this Squad guy wants to dish out money to people who were never slaves and wants the people who never had slaves to pay for it. Sweet.

Some questions that might be asked are: Will the people who get the money quit their jobs because they no longer need them? Say goodbye to a lot of workers. Now that these people have money, will criminals target them so they can steal that money? Will the countries that captured and sold slaves have to ante up? Finally, will $14 trillion be enough because something tells me there will never be enough.

Even if the Dems control the House of Representatives, it still won't go anywhere.

When government gives out money, it must pass through many sticky hands before it gets to the intended recipient, who gets pennies on the dollar. When taxes are reduced, the intended recipient keeps 100% of that dollar.

Knowing this fact, there is no way to make an honest case that this is out of genuine concern for the intended recipient. Ironic considering Dems deprive more workers of the fruits of their labor.

They like to keep this dream alive to black folks to make them think they'll be insta-millionaires if they keep voting left. Honestly, I think its a brilliant tactic! The left is very smart. Too bad they never use those smarts and skills to good things

TBH, I'm looking forward to lowered tinted pickup trucks with hydraulics and 15" subwoofers coming back in style.

The point is that a lot of bills are introduced in the House, but few pass. This one is no different just like others will not pass such as MTG recent bills she has introduced. MTG and the Squad are two peas of the same pod.

Sure but how do you deal with the monopoly power of the few that control the whole system to such a degree the government has deemed them essential and will even bail them out?

Exactly, reparations are supported by a very small and declining segment of the population. Even within democratic politicians it doesn’t have support anywhere close to passing.

My point is, the Democrats have to keep that carrot out there for black people to chase and blacks will chase it every time.

I can say the same thing with many of the GOP proposals in the House. They are supported by a minority within the GOP and yet they are still introduced. For instance, MTG introduced to ban Section 230, but many conservatives, especially in the media oppose that bill.

I don't think reparations is the right idea to try to get rid of racism in the country. Yes, we do have racism, but it is not generally systemic. It is based on individual actions and their emotions primarily. But the reparations is based on the conspiracy theory of 40 acres and a mule argument, now calculated for today's money. It was an idea then, after the Civil War, and it is a historical myth now trying to become a law. Like everything, it is based on half-truths. The proposal was made initially by General William T Sherman in General Order #15, but it was set aside for a specific area in the Carolinas to set up black communities and land. But it was set up on an island in North Carolina after the war and what to do with the freed slaves who had nowhere to go. But no mule was proposed by General Sherman in General Order #15. So, we tread on the long road where we had separate but equal, then no separate but equal, and now we have certain people who want separate but equal, such as MTG proposing to not have people to vote for 5 years if they moved from a "blue state" to a "red state" for instance.

Do you really think this bill will pass the House AND Senate in today's environment?

Yes, he introduced the bill, but the reality is that it has little chance of passing and becoming law, much like many of the bills the House has introduced that have not even passed the House yet.

Yeah. What I don't get is why people are upset/triggered when they know that this bill will die in committee by the end of the year.

I do — political propaganda and fear mongering

Without it the Republican Party would cease to exist

No, the bill has no chance. The only reason the guy brought it up was to remind blacks how screwed they are and he has their backs.

Fear mongering? Can you point to fear mongering bigger than it's a pandemic of the unvaccinated and the planet is going to die?
