‘The last straw’: the US families ending love affair with grocery chain after Capitol riot

I have never believed people should be punished for other's mistakes and it sounds like that is what has happened here. The donors didn't know there would be a riot at the Capitol that day and were probably just supporting their candidate. It would be different if they financed getting rioters to D.C. and put them up in hotels, etc.

Do you think it's fair to boycott the company simply because they donated to the candidate of their choice?

    What do you think?

It's all fair. Let them try. When the rational people hear of these Leftists boycotts, they often increase their business to the targets and the boycott helps the company.

I think that voters should boycott all trump properties and crap.

I agree with you, but I'm not giving the donors a pass either. Anyone who supported that rally also supported the lie of massive election fraud.

Good luck. Anyone who boycotts Publix is a ****ing moron. Chick-fil-A is having a tough go of it too after the Left started boycotting them:)

Let’s see how many more jobs Democrats kill now? We can all shop at Win Dixie, Walmart or something.

Yes, when the candidate of their choice is a neo-fascist, riot or no riot...

It's a Florida/Southern based chain... they'll survive in Redneck Alley, but it's doubtful they would make it in my neck of the woods.

I see there are 10 of these stores in Virginia, 8 in Richmond... those will be an interesting test case for a boycott..

I don't care if people refuse to shop there. That is for each individual to make on their own. What I really want to see is someone cover up the "L" in their name. I like pranks! A pie in the face for the CEO would be sweet! Whatever happened to the Biotic Baking Brigade?

It's stupid beyond belief. I would never boycott anyone just because of who they supported.

I think that I should be free to shop elsewhere, if I see that a company gave money to the "stop the steal" campaign. I may do the same if a company, like Walmart, lobbies for unpaid-for GOP tax cuts, increasing their bottom line, while 10,000s of their workers are on food stamps and other federal benefits. It's really another government subsidy for Walmart.

The same way, conservatives should be free to stop shopping at Target, if they don't like their bathroom gender policies.

Yes. Everyone has the right to patronize whatever businesses they want. I have not sold on Ebay since they turned a blind eye to child pornography (the seller had tens of thousands of customers so they didn't want to lose that revenue). However, I don't research EVERY single company before I buy from them. The only exception is I try to buy American made products as much as possible.

Trump isn't just another candidate. And sure, people have the right to shop wherever they want. Why would I want to give my business to someone who supports a criminal thug?

I would never knowingly give my business to a trumper. They support someone who is clearly evil and dangerous.

We don't have "Publix" stores in Colorado, but, I have said for years -- don't spend your money with any company that makes a political point of supporting candidates, positions, or issues that antagonize you or that you disagree strongly with!

"Vote with your wallet!" It's an 'election' you can weigh-in on every day of the year!

Agreed. It drives me bonkers when people complain about something but won't do anything to stop the madness or change their attitude about it. Life is too short to walk around angry at everything. Make your voice heard! As they say "These boots are made for walking!".

That's fine, but some people may not have too many choices on where to shop.

Very true. I only have two grocery stores where I live so my options are limited unless I want to drive 25 minutes to the nearest town. I often wait until I have an appointment or meeting in that town to stock up on groceries, but sometimes I'm just stuck and have to patronize WalMart in my town. I would absolutely NEVER shop there given other choices.

I never understand why businesses would openly fly a Trump flag or display a Biden sign. Way to alienate half of your customers. Even the other half may not be too pleased, because it shows them that the business places politics before other things that are important.

I think the same goes for lobbying and big donations. Unfortunately, the citizens united ruling made it much easier for companies to hide those donations, when they donate to PACs, so they can give without accountability from the customers.

I was never a Publix baby. Our family generally shopped at Winn Dixie. However, what this whole incident underscores is something that has been very common in FL for quite a long time, which is the wealthy families that own these sorts of businesses have always bullied their political beliefs through nefarious schemes of support. This one is the latest.

FL is an interesting state to see where it will head politically. There are many factors that make this state on the cusp of change, but what that change will be is determined by factors that are largely being ignored. Except for a couple of other states, also in the south, FL is about to become the first example of how climate change will be reshaping not only the economy of FL, but also its political makeup.

When my wife and I vacationed in Floriduh about 30 years ago, we had a timeshare with a kitchen so we had to go stock ourselves....

We had the exact same thought... that was our inside joke the entire week...

    Go Publix Go!

I bet they survive easily. Let's examine if Chick-Fil-A survived the cancel culture. Yes they did!

LOL! Most of their stores are in trumpland.

Ironically, I tried one of their sandwiches. What a joke! It is just crap food. They are no better than McDonald's.

I think FL is done as a battleground state for a decade.. No state added remotely more R votes this last election than they did...

That state could literally be underwater due to the melting icecaps and it would take DeSantis 2 months to notice...

I personally would much rather figure out how to win Ohio back.... That's one I just don't understand...

So you want to force people to shop where you want.

How far the right wing has fallen. We should start calling it the wrong wing. Need a tissue for those crocodile tears?

I don't knowingly give my business to social deviants. That's an easy one.
