In what should be a blinding flash of the obvious Mitch McConnell admitted the shutdown was not working. He also noted it wasn't his idea after being blamed for it during a heated discussion during a private GOP luncheon.

Government is not working. They've been fighting about these things for years and couldn't come to an agreement. Now with the government shut down you'd think it might put pressure on these folks to sort this sh*t out once and for all, and they still can't/won't. I have to sort of laugh when the left claims that if Trump would just reopen the government, they'll sort out the wall easy-peasy, but when Trump offers 3 more years for DACA, the left complains that's not enough time to sort it out.

Our government seems to be stuck in some sort of stasis where nothing can be accomplished because the two parties are so firmly entrenched in their corners. "Compromise" used to be something all reasonable adults did ---- now it's treated like some sort of political weakness or failure.

The only way to fix this might be with a viable third party. Something/someone to be able to tip the scales one way or the other when the Democrats and Republicans draw lines in the sand against each other.

Declare an emergency and go to court is what you mean.

Legally that would probably work, although will be challenged in court. The challenge will likely revolve around the fact that illegal immigration has declined 13% since 2007 so where is the emergency?

I think the case for an "emergency" might hinge on the recent caravans ---- their boldness, their increase in numbers, and their recent actions against border agents. (Just a guess.)

Like your posts, but beware that you are violating forum rules with this headline... it must match the URL you provide, which would be - ‘This is your fault’: GOP senators clash over shutdown inside private luncheon

On topic, Mitchy the Kid is sort of right... it's wasn't his idea, but he certainly wasn't doing his job to fix it. Even in yesterdays vote, if he really wanted to, he could have gotten the Dem plan approved (again) in the Senate and been willing to fight the eventual Trump veto. He didn't...

You are giving this man a pass that I would not. I assert it is far more his fault than Donald Trump's. He needed to tell this President 'No'. The United States Senate is not supposed to be weaponized by the executive branch. Its job is not to insulate the President or to protect him. It negotiates on its own. It decides its own agenda and it pursues it with as much vigor as the House and the oval office does. Its up to the President to decide what to do, with the legislation he receives. He turned the Majority leader into a member of his White House staff, and McConnell turned the Senate into a bunch of the white House interns

Senator Mark Warner is just as stupid as he looks. If he wasn't so stupid and partisan, the gov't would be open. This is on idiots like him and the rest of the idiots who continually block bills from passing to reopen the gov't and protect the American people. But mark needs the illegal votes, so he blocks border security to increase his base.

The bill passed the Senate remember? It was Trump who blocked it.

? Really? Giving him a pass?? Not a chance... I agree with every word you say, times ten... I've said on this forum dozens of times that McConnells job (and Pelosi's) is to pass what the Senate thinks is best, then take your chances on the Presidents desk. He's abdicated that responsibility by saying he won't bring things to the floor that don't have the support of the president. It's horrifying.

But I think he can technically say the shutdown is not his fault, although every day since that day is his fault. It was Trump talking to Ryan and the house refusing to take up the bill McConnell got voice vote passed that started this.

Peace out... we are saying basically the same thing...

They've been handled using existing resources.

Clearly not, existing resources are not a deterrent...
