‘We Should Just Leave:’ Trump Takes A Look At Pulling Troops Out Of Afghanistan

Pakistan is kind of an enigma to me. During the cold war Pakistan and us were really close as military allies. Pakistan was both a member of CENTO and SEATO. We had airbases and a big communication relay site in Pakistan. Somewhere along the line our militaries drifted apart as too did our relationship governmental wise. In fact if I remember right, Gary Powers and his ill fated U-2 flight over the USSR took off from Pakistan.

I know nothing remains the same. But perhaps our warming relations with India had something to do with our relations with Pakistan turning sour. I really don't know. As for Afghanistan, I don't know what to do there either. Should we tell the Afghani they're on their own much like the old USSR did to the communist government in Kabul when they pulled out? That government didn't last long without the USSR's support. Perhaps it's time to let the Afghan's decide this on their own.

I do know as a former military man one doesn't want to just up and leave without victory. I felt that way when I left Vietnam in March of 1973. But sometimes it take a saner head from someone not directly involved.

 

The US will stay in Afghanistan until such time it gets an ironclad guarantee that the opium will continue to flow.

 

But you are protecting the homeland, by gaining control of valuable resources.

 

Sounds like the Roman Empire to me. Just take what others have, and claim it as your own. What kind of sh()t is that?

 

The kind of **** that keeps your economy going and allows you to maintain your Life-Style and Standard of Living.

 

The only way we can possibly have a good outcome is go into Pakistan and clear out the Taliban as best we can. That opens another bag of worms though with Pakistan. Opium is the cash crop and I think it always will be. Afghanistan is not winnable because they will never be able to police themselves.

 

If there is nothing to be accomplished in Afghanistan, why should Americans die there?

 

I agree India should be dealing with them not us.

 

Locating them would be a problem though? The point is they don't wear uniforms so we don't know who the enemy is - which is why we've been there for 15 effing years, and apart from deaths and appalling injuries to the 'lions' because the 'donkeys' back in the Pentagon didn't have the faintest idea how to deal with the situation, there's nothing to show for it.

 

Murder and bloodshed is what keeps economies going, are you fuc()ing kidding me? Work/labor, trade, food, water, etc, that's what keeps economies going. Not killing people, you fu()()ing moron.
