I read that article a couple more times and did not see Borowitz mentioned anywhere.

Look, it actually hadn't occurred to me that this might indeed be some kind of satire or comedy piece until you mentioned it. And we've had a few dozen posters here from both sides of the aisle start threads based on something that turned out to be from the Onion or somesuch. Perhaps this was indeed another one of those examples - I'd accept that were it the case. It's happened before. So I looked up her other articles - and I'm not seeing it from her. THIS doesn't seem like the writer is some kind of budding comedy talent. If this indeed is some kind of satire, then she's satirizing herself, her snowflake-ness, and the lefts inability to deal with reality by returning to the womb.

The other possibility is that this is indeed a comedy - but not exactly the way she meant it to be.

The sad reality is that it’s not. And you know it’s not.

Do you really think that she is unable to open jars because she doesn't go to the gym any more?

Andy Borowitz mention was in reply to your opening statement.

I absolutely believe it - something similar happened to me. I was so physically weak from lack of exercise I had to re-learn how to walk - and yes, I couldn't open up jars either. That became my son's job until I recovered with a lot of exercise.

Now, I end up opening up jars for my wife at least once a month. I think it highly likely that if she exercised more she wouldn't need me in that regard. So yeah - I believe it.

    She didn't mention Guillain Barre.

What you or I think it’s supposed to be is irrelevant. It is what it is. She’s not trying to be funny. She’s dead serious. You know that.

Neither did I, as I wasn't suffering from that. Completely different scenario. I WAS lying in bed for months, unable to move. Without exercise, the muscles begin to weaken. This was an instance of muscle atrophy due to non-use. The same thing - albeit a bit more extreme in my case - that she's going thru.

We’re not talking about wether or not the beholder finds it funny. I certainly think it is and I hope you do too. We’re talking about wether or not that was the writers intent. It clearly wasn’t. She was serious.

Ruptured disks were the initial cause, but most of the problems were the result of the surgery that I contracted a staph infection from. In any event, my arms and legs lost a great deal of muscle mass while immobile in a hospital bed for months - I became dangerously underweight - and was unable to even hold a small plate for a long time afterwards.

So I repeat, I well believe and have the experience to say so that skipping the gym after a significant amount of time will cause the muscles to atrophy and weaken.

She wasn't serious. Do you really believe that she believed Trumps belief that we are born with a finite amount of energy? Like the number of revolutions you can expect from a wheel bearing?

You're correct, but that is slightly different from leading a normal life without going to the gym.

It's an extreme case, sure. But my wife needs me to open jars. I've even joked here that it's the only reason my wife keeps me around. When I lived at home mom and my sister asked me to open jars for them if dad wasn't around. I've had to do it occasionally as school for the secretary. It's hardly a stretch to believe that going to the gym will increase muscle strength, and that not going will cause one to revert back.

Yeah, I agree with ararmer1919. This lady is serious.

There's a gadget for jar opening that you can buy.
We'll have to agree to disagree. Perhaps it's an Australian type of humour.

She was taking the piss out of a bloke who believes we only have a limited amount of energy in our lives so we shouldn't waste it. It's why golf karts were invented, everybody knows that.
