It wasn't from lack of trying on Obama's part. He just couldn't get Congress to move on gun control especially after whistle blowers leaked the criminal action of the fast & furious program. That let the air of out Obama's gun control tire. BTW, I never did see pro gunners online ranting hysterics about Obama coming for their guns. Also, I know people who never owned a gun in their life buying them because the Obama economy sucked so bad, they were expecting a possible collapse and wanted protection from civil unrest.

I am no Trump lover, but I don't see him trying to stage a coup any more than Obama tried to do so (despite the warnings of many people on this forum that he would try to do just that).

A coup is only possible where there is some institutional power vacuum elsewhere in the system. I think that the courts and Congress would not stand for it, and military leaders would respect the other parts of the system too much to participate in something unconstitutional.

    No precedent at all.

Unlike you I have studied Germany under the Wiemar Republic and we are no where close.

All you have done is name generalities which all politicians do. Every comparison of Hitler to Trump is stupid and every claim made by people like the professor in the OP is laughably stupid.

Your claim is a massive fail

You sound just like Trump and his routine promises of 'something big' which is promised but never seems to materialize either.

Trump and his guys had better do it quick before the real actual silent coup against Trump that is going on as we speak succeeds.

We're not close to nuclear war. In fact, we're no where near it and not even close relative to other notable 20th century events.

So it sounds like some of you are absolutely convinced there's going to be a coup d-eta initiated by Trump soon. What steps are you guys taking to prepare?

I think if it did happen it would be a nuclear attack. Trump and his key staff members and supporters would be out of DC and a nuke would go off taking out the federal government. Trump would announce that until the threat of future nuclear attacks is over, and the attackers are brought to justice, that martial law is declared and elections are suspended. It would happen in a way that would make Trump seem like an American Hero for bravely taking on the task of leading the country in a time of crisis to protect the people.

Steadily, over time, certain rights would be stripped away in the name of national security. Muslims would get blamed for the attacks I'm sure, and Trump would use them as a scapegoat to cover up the coup. I am 100% certain that it would lead to Nazi-like registration of Arab-Americans. Trump already called for them to be forced to wear special ID badges ...Hmmmm where have we seen that before?

How do you think President Trump and/or his supporters would get a nuclear weapon? The U.S. military doesn't hand them out.

And if you think members of the U.S. military would ever obey orders to detonate a nuclear weapon on American soil you are bat crazy insane.

If this lie narrative works, it only stands to benefit Trump. The purpose of these particular "Trump Apocalypse" lie narratives is to create instability and pessimism in the economy. That may actually work... for awhile. But then people realize there is not going to be any Trump Apocalypse, and the "Cry Wolf" effect creates artificially boosted optimism and the more negative the apocalyptic drivel thereafter, the more optimistic the public will get. This is just a variation of what got Trump elected, not some wild speculation.

The creeps of the gov-edu-union-contractor-grantee-trial lawyer-MSM Complex should have waited to deploy this kind of lie narrative until halfway into the Administration's term at least. Then any negatives on the economy could impact the election. As it is, the narrative is way early, and could end up helping Trump with a great economic boom near election time.

this is precisely the sort of hysteria that is being fomented by the democratic party and its media lapdogs and fed to low information voters like you. closer to nuclear war than ever? are you joking? we aren't even close, but if people like you have their say we'll be glowing by christmas. have you heard of a little thing called the bay of pigs? the cuban missile crisis? any of this ringing a bell? and to think, this was just one incident and it was under the watch of one of modern liberalism's demi-gods - jfk. the reality is that the big three (russia, china and the u.s.) have been in a nuclear stalemate for decades. most of the other nuclear capable nations have chosen their sides in the stalemate and the few wildcards have been kept on a short to moderate leash. the leashes consisted of tapping them on the head when they got out of line and praising them for playing nice. that pretty much changed under obama's watch. he gleefully contributed to iran's nuclear war chest and blissfully ignored north korea's growing threat to the world. these are the real threats of nuclear war, not the tired superpowers who long ago realized the dangers they were playing with. trump has been handed this time bomb and you're trying to blame him for attempting to get it under control???

as for coups, military takeovers and the like, those are the tactics of anarchists, socialists, globalists and religious fanatics. you know, folks like you. most of us rational folks are perfectly content to keep nudging the country toward a "more perfect union". you remember that phrase, don't you? we don't need the revolutionary zeal so popular in places like mao's china or the old soviet union. we paid attention to history and recognize the danger of those long lines at the guillotine or firing squad and the futility of marching dissenters off to distant gulags. we'll leave the goose-stepping displays of solidarity and the roving bands of hooded thugs to y'all. we're satisfied to go about the business of slowly improving our way of life with hard work and perseverance, with a little bit of luck thrown in to sweeten the pot. these are the people that, dissatisfied with all your pointless rushing around to get nowhere, elected trump and are willing to see what he makes of the opportunity. so far we haven't seen the abuses you are constantly claiming exist and we have been watching very closely. easing a few regulations, flexing our muscle a bit to impress some of the nastier runts around the world, calling out the liars that attempt to sow discontent and shoveling some of the dross from out shores is perfectly all right with us. these things don't make him the new hitler and watching y'all foaming at the mouth has been kind of entertaining too.

And just a little bit nazi.

The funniest aspect of all of this is Trump's 'win' came as a surprise to him and all of his voters, now they all act like it was a done deal.

Actually, strike that. The funniest aspect is Dicky Donny knew for a fact he wasn't going to win and was using it all as a springboard to extend his business empire. Then a whole bunch of deplorables believed him and now he's got a **** job he hates which will almost certainly kill him and is mired in conflicts of interest.

His voters did this to him. :-D

It's always amusing to see the projections of central collectivist statists, that it's the people who want smaller, less powerful government and greater individual freedoms who are the threat to usurp "democracy" by taking over the government, increasing its size and power, and using it against individual freedoms.

    No, LW, that's YOU.

this is the true rift in our country, people from all points of the political compass that are too wrapped up in their own little worlds and believe that everyone else is just as petty and self-serving as they are themselves. all the folks in the middle, the vast majority of americans, just sit back in wonder and amazement at the insanity that is going on around them and try to make some sense of it all. we just keep on doing what we've always done and watch the idiots run around in circles, hoping they will finally tire themselves out and realize that it's nap time at their daycare center.

I doubt he would make a deal with them. They would likely be a unknowing scapegoat for the attack so that Trump can give the American people an enemy to hate. Most likely North Korea.

The far right said the same thing about Clinton and Obama, the far left said the same thing about Bush and now Trump...there are crazies on both sides.
