Fair enough. Got the impression that you didn’t think I was honestly engaging with the thread.

Parents were so disturbed about their child being exposed to this book that they had him read it out loud in front of a room of adults so it could be sent out to the world online.

To warn people. I'm pretty sure this kid's father will not become a youtube sensation over it. Even if that was their plan, it STILL shouldn't have been there in the first place.

They need to be exposed. It was a school board meeting so where else do you think they should voice their complaints?

    The parents? I agree.

If they were concerned about their child being exposed to this, they would have just read it themselves. instead, they had their child read it out loud to a room full of adults.

It's a school board meeting so that's the appropriate place to voice their complaints but you think the book is fine anyways cuz evidently you know.... Homo erotic novels are fine for 11 year olds

It must be fine. Otherwise, they wouldn't have had their child read it out loud in public.

If they didn't then they'd look even worse then they already do on the basis of "you have a book in your CHILD library that is SO EXPLICIT that parts cannot be read outloud"?
that would expose them even MORE

I agree. The rating of the book puts it at 13+ which suggests it shouldn’t have been in a middle schools. I wouldn’t have a problem with it in a high school.

Ignorance still isn't a virtue. I understand why this being within reach of minors makes you uncomfortable, but I doubt any real harm comes of it. It's not going to make them gay, make them trans, make them sluts, or make them some teacher's secret sex slave, or whatever it is you're afraid of.

    Expose who? The parents?

I agree. If it is so disturbing as they claim, they shouldn't be exposing their son to it further by having him read it out loud to a room full of adults.

Things like that have to be bought to the light or people like you will keep saying it's not happening

I get the posters sentiment. Probably would have been better to not have the kid involved. It feels like a stunt. The parent could have just as effectively brought up the issue without putting his kid in that position.

Maybe it would be better if we just had a drag queen read it to them?

    It's not age appropriate

Having their son read it out loud to a room full of adults, shows they don't really care about him being exposed to it.

Obviously to expose whatever individuals were responsible for that book being there in the first place. I will play your game though. If the PARENTS snuck into the school oceans 11 style and planted the book, then sure, its ok to blame the parents then.

It was read by a kid for the effect, No doubt.

But I don't see a problem with that because kids are who they are pushing it on

Not only him but all of the kids in that library were already being exposed to it. That's the entire point.

but he already read it because the SCHOOL gave it to him. I'll even agree that having the kid read it at that meeting might be inappropriate but the fact is, he read it already

I think “pushing it on” is a bit of an exaggeration. I was able to locate some local publications talking about the situation. The book isn’t a part of any required curriculum. It was just made available to the students. I don’t think it should have been, but I don’t see any malicious intent here.

The parents exposed their child to this material.

No big surprise all the leftists here resort to attacking the parents and coming up with their own personal conspiracy theories rather than deal with the actual subject matter. I think Golems winning it in that regard merely arguing semantics and word definitions because you know, he really hits it where it matters! LOL

Him reading it at the meeting is proof the parents aren't concerned about him being exposed to it.

They just wanted attention for themselves.

By sending them to school? the bus driver took him to school. should we also blame the bus driver? liberal logic is fascinating.

I think it’s at least fair to say that the parent was pulling a stunt and less offended than he implied…
