The you aren't paying attention to the divisiveness that is increasing in Washington DC. If the 2A starts getting eroded expect to see many of the military members and police force rebel. Many of them belong to the NRA and own a variety of guns. Civilians have drones too.

Actually, my recommendation regarding longer prison sentences, under very-much-less-pleasant conditions, is specific for those who commit crimes with firearms!

Example: A guy gets in a fight with some other moron in a bar, throws a "lucky" punch, and his opponent does not get up. He goes to prison, but is fully eligible for parole, sentence-commutation, work-release, etc.

But, some other idiot commits armed robbery, gets caught, and WHETHER HE SHOOTS ANYONE OR NOT -- he gets a LONG sentence, in a 'not-fun' prison, and he STAYS there for the full term. Think: Château d'If

. "Guess I shoulda stuck to shoplifting instead...."

 

What the hell are you asking about? Wasn't I clear enough? We on the Constitution-loving Right cherish the right (not 'privilege') of being fully-empowered to defend ourselves with adequate force against "criminals and crazies". Many on the Constitution-hating Left want to strip the Second Amendment out and leave sane, law-abiding citizens in a situation where they can "take a knife to a gun fight", or just roll over and be at the mercy of these murderous creatures.

If you don't want to defend yourself, then DON'T... but the rest of us American citizens have the right to make our own decisions, and we'll fight you on the Left tooth-and-nail to keep that right!

But changes to 2A can apply to criminals too by doing pretty much what you suggest and make carrying à gun a very serious affair.
Changes to 2A are not just for one side. If armed robbery is made to carry years of prison, then slowly your need to defend yourself will reduce.
Réduction in arms has to be carefully managed . But the 8nsane idea that the police are not there to protect you will never allow any progress. It automatically forces you to use arms.
