Guess this is what happens now that education has become political indoctrination. Too much time spent teaching kids that man's warming the planet and that America is bad news and no time left to teach history.

NEW YORK -- More than one-fifth of millennials in the U.S. -- 22 percent -- haven't heard of, or aren't sure if they've heard of, the Holocaust, according to a study published Thursday, on Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day. The study, which was commissioned by The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany and conducted by Schoen Consulting, also found that 11 percent of U.S. adults overall haven't heard of the Holocaust or aren't sure if they did."

I was wondering why my kids were finding so much success in life at such early ages. I thought it was their superior genes, but it sound like it was their superior education and upbringing.

Now in the big picture does remembering the facts about the holocaust truly diminish their lives?

    Whatever...

This is just more right wing attacks on millennials because of their opposition to having guns flooding our country...

What's stupid is that these attacks have no effect whatsoever on the kids and just widens the divide more.

History is the "big picture" that puts modern day events in perspective. Not knowing history is the path to repeating it.

Apparently you couldn't comprehend the OP and you just may be a millennial. This is about the education you received not about you.

That you asked that question is the problem. Along with the problem of not knowing history, especially when it comes to something like what a gov't can and have done to its own people. Without knowing history, no one is truly educated, although they may have learned a skill to make a living. Seems like learning such a skill is where your concern ends in regards to education. Is this also your complete education?

I started school here in the early/mid 1950's and graduated HS in the mid 1960's. The history thatvwe were presented in "Western Civilization" was extremely Anglo centered a bit on the French Revolution, with some presentation about German unification and Italian unification. Central Europe and Eastern Europe was treated as if all those Slavs were just one homogenous blob with Austrians and their minor servants the Hungarians. So we never got a picture of real history.

They must be the children of some of the Trump supporters who deny the Holocaust ever happened.

On the contrary, science denial is the Texas propaganda textbook committee stock in trade. FAKE NEWS is the rage these days. Which encompasses historical revision. Trump is going to wipe out the holocaust. Not directly, but removing it as a trigger.

Honestly, I didn't hear about the Holocaust until I was in College. I didn't learn about it in College either, College was just the time period I heard about it.
There are also other atrocities we don't learn about in school. There's just so many in human history...

I challenge the idea that this is a surprisingly low result or demonstrates the implied conclusions (especially not your partisan ranting). Considering some of the shocking results seen from tests for knowledge of contemporary world geography and recent history among Americans (young or in general), achieving 78% awareness of the Holocaust sounds quite high. I wouldn’t be surprised if the average American has a better idea of what went on in Germany in the 1940s than they do about what’s going on in Syria today.

I never read about the Armenian genocide until maybe 20 years ago...decades after I left school.

I don't remember history of the Holocaust being taught either (although I was well aware of it from other sources). In fact the history of the 20th Century was woefully neglected...I assumed because it was too recent and still politically "debatable".

Basic dates yes...cause and effect...very little

I hate to say it because of the left-wing leanings of Millennials but in this one instance when it comes to demanding proof in order to believe something Millennials are superior to Gen x and baby boomers.

Sufficient proof has not been provided to show that 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust the most numbers we can account for is one or two million everyone knows this.

Holocaust deniers are busy removing historical reference to it, and the witnesses are all dying. Soon, you will say there is no proof.

You mean like cause, and justification and reasons?

Because I don't believe we got the WHOLE truth on 9/11, but am not a truther.

Do you believe all but small details? Or wide swaths?

Why would it matter (ignoring the fact that the Nazis kept meticulous records) whether the Nazis killed 1 million or 6 million?

That's literally what the article and this thread is about so it matters for the purpose of staying on topic at least.

Is that because you're not familiar with what a history book looks like?

Again...why would it matter whether the Nazis killed 1 million rather than the 6 million that the Nazis documented?

And ...the thread was about not knowing the Holocaust occurred...not quibbling over death totals.

Would not 1 million be a Holocaust?
