A boy suffered a tragic death as an unintended and unforeseen result of the environmental movement. But hey, the planet needs saving, right? Sometimes got to break a few eggs...

All due to a trendy new household item.

Question: Who has metal straws if not to make an environmental statement?

Small change, big impact: metal straws

Eco-friendly alternatives for every-day products have engulfed the consumer market in the past decade. Among these, the metal straw stands tall as a current, trendy and exportable accessory to our beverages. But how effective are they in combatting the plastic crisis?

We must admit: the metal straw is a stylish utensil. Its desirability stems from a perceived edginess and alternative charm. To some, they are tools of activism, lending the feeling that you are minimising plastic waste as you sip.

Small change, big impact: metal straws - The Boar, Charlotte Crabtree, May 4, 2020

It was a beautiful June day on Long Island.
Crystal DeFraia offered her 4-year-old son Charlie his favorite drinkable yogurt, which he enjoyed slurping through a metal straw.
She was in the backyard chatting with a technician who was there to service the family's new pool, when she heard her other 8-year-old daughter Madison scream.
Madison appeared, a look of horror on her face. Charlie had fell off the porch.
Crystal ran to find her son covered with blood. At first, she thought Charlie had broken his nose or bitten his lip, but there was too much blood. Blood was pumping out of his mouth.
While waiting for the ambulance, Crystal's husband kept the boy on his stomach to avoid choking. Emergency responders were only five minutes away, but he wasn't sure his son was going to make it.
"He essentially bled out in our front lawn. I watched life leave his eyes."

Okay, yes he did survive, but just barely. His right carotid artery and jugular vein had been punctured and were bleeding into his neck tissues and through a tear in the back of his throat. Doctors didn't have much time. They had to repair the artery not just to stop the bleeding but to restore blood flow to the right side of Charlie’s brain. Each passing minute increased his risk of a devastating stroke. The injury was very high up near the skull base, making it too risky to approach surgically. The case required a special technique that was beyond most hospitals' capabilities, but luckily the boy was at Stony Brook Hospital. They used a self-expanding stent that covered the whole in the artery. 10 years ago, the hospital wouldn't have been able to use that technique. The boy did apparently suffer some very minimal damage to brain tissue and will require physical therapy, speech therapy and therapy for fine motor skills.

so do you feel the same about metal guns? Sacrificing children for the 2nd?

same with cars... so many children sacrificed to those

that said, if I use a straw, I prefer disposable

    I don't give a gun or a car to a four-year-old.

So you are using this child's death to further a political agenda. Quite pathetic.

Sacrificed on the alter of environmentalism.......listen to yourself.

You think metal straws are new?

Don't run with scissors. Don't let kids run with metal straws in their mouths.

An accident enabled by a parent's poor judgment.

Nope. The four-year-old had the metal straw unsupervised and by himself. You can't spin this on cars or guns.

this was a tragic accident, with the typical misleading right wing headline...BRAVO is it any wonder rightwingers are not believable and dismissed so easily?
