I don't think they are worth the potential harm.

I'm hardly right wing, but I know parental negligence (perhaps driven by virtue signaling) when I see it.

I don't know why anyone uses metal straws. It makes everything taste metallic. I've been using the same silicone straw for years. It comes with its own pipe cleaner.

The parents can easily PREVENT children from having access to firearms, but they don't do the obvious.

I am Independent who would never allow children have access to cars or firearms and yes, I have two children who never had the chance to get hurt with them and the stupid metal straws because I cared for their health and their lives to keep watch at all times and do the obvious prevention set up around the home and the car.

When they were young had all of the plug-in sockets covered by a hard slider cover making it impossible for them to mess with it kept all knives and forks well out of reach and so on it is what good caring loving parents do 24/7 kept the car and truck keys out of reach too.

Maybe you should park your party-based prejudice?

I'm just pointing out this as an example of how there are often unintended unforeseen downsides to alternatives that are pushed on people due to environmental reasons.

They most probably chose metal straws because they thought it would be better for the environment, but it ended up having devastating consequences for their child.

I suspect it won't be long until a child gets run over because a parent was backing out of their driveway, and because their electric car did not make any engine noise, the child had no idea that there was a car nearby that was moving. Just more unforeseen consequences that I guess society will just have to figure out as it happens.

The fall off the porch is not what severely hurt him.
Kind of like an accident from running with pointed scissors. The running part, by itself, was not the problem.

My point was not about banning anything. But of course people like you have trouble understanding that, because you love to ban stuff as the solution to problems.

and I am just pointing out accidents happen with cars and guns too

many have good reasons for buying guns and cars, but unintended consequences can happen

the title "sacraficed on the altar of environmentalism" is still misleading, my lifes experience tells me its done to draw viewers with titillation, which actually typifies all media, not just rightwing
