People are sequestered in their homes listening to expert talking heads that contradict each other every day. Isn’t government and political leadership wonderful? That’s why they’re leading and the rest of us are following. This is a special class of people you know, with degrees from Harvard and Yale and tongues that can debate for 24 hours non-stop with nary a breath taken. These people are a marvel to behold aren’t they? Just one question: How did they get us into this mess? People are sick and dying and the economy is on the brink of collapse. Shouldn’t our accomplished leadership have seen this coming? What were they doing? What were they thinking? Did they believe that a few four syllable words would deter a deadly pathogen stalking our communities like the Tenth Plague of Egypt? What kind of hubris must these people have to have allowed this to happen? Yes, one side was preoccupied with impeaching what they saw as a menace to the great state they had crafted to right all wrongs and seek vengeance through the courts to punish disfavored groups. But the other side was no better. They were pocketing the same lobbyist bribery from the culprits that released the plague for personal corporate considerations. While the pall approached no warning was given because the two sides were locked in combat like rutting male wildebeests that didn’t see the lion. Now we are paying a much steeper price than we should because precious time was lost at the beginning. This is an ugly situation and when we get to the other side of it, if we get there, we need to reconsider how we elect leaders and who is considered for leadership. Obviously there are too many highly educated people in leadership. The problem is that they identify with highly educated people on distant continents and abandon any concern they have for average people. That’s what globalization is all about. It’s an elitist betrayal and now we are being poisoned. A new broom makes a clean sweep and it’s time to purge our government of the treacherous thieves that occupy it. We need to use the election process to remove every single Congressman and Senator in US government-none of them protected us. We’d be better off with a government made up of truck drivers and plumbers. If that doesn’t work then violent overthrow is the only alternative.
Sorry but the two parties are not even close to equal in culpability. In case you haven’t figured it out yet a Republican is President and this president basically ignored the problem for two months. Yes he partially stopped people coming in from China but did he order social distancing. Did he ramp up production of ventilators and PPEs. Heck there are any number of his quotes down playing the virus, or comparing it with the flu, or even more stupid claiming it was under control or would go away when the weather got warm.
Although I firmly believe both major parties belong on the trash heap of history due to both's unwillingness to work with the other. I will say this, that the president needs to begin or start or at least show he is willing to work with the other party first. He is the number one leader. Now isn't the time to be creating more needless feuds and calling others names. Now the Democrats haven't shown any willingness to work with Trump and the GOP on this, more intent on blaming them for this pandemic. How much of that is due to Trump's refusal to create a bipartisan task force or his non-willingness to work with Democrats is an unknown factor. Personally, I think the hatred from democrats toward Trump means they won't no matter what the cost. Even so, Trump should have been the first to try, to try as forcefully as he can, could. He hasn't. So in the end, I'd say a pox on all of them. For Trump and company, time to stop with the name calling and the creating of needless feuds and reach across the aisle for help. For the Democrats, stop the blame game being your number one priority and help Trump as much as you can. Sounds like fantasy land to me.
While some regard this as a healthcare and economic crisis, others see it as a political crisis. And some in power are using it for political gain.
Spoken like a blind partisan . Both parties are cut from the same cloth . That is the problem along with blind partisans that have helped to create this pay to play corruption. I agree with the OP.
Hopefully, a new, less damaged third party will emerge from the disasters of 2020. We're basically stuck with the Hatfields and the McCoys right now with a mentally damaged person running the White House.
I would suggest this to the OP. Governments are full of self interested people. We know this, we tolerate this, and usually it doesn't become so inconvenient to most of us that we tolerate it. What government isn't, though, is a substitute for your own self preservation, livelihood, or success. And sometimes, it's bad luck that events like what we have today become reality. China made horrible decisions within its own attempts at their national containment. Their inability to be forthright and honest about the extent and the devastation that they have within their country is telling. It seems they were perfectly willing to ignore the impacts of the virus or were intent on its spread by not having stopped international travel when they could have. And when the US did suspend travel the world, and certain parts of our own government lashed out and chastised the President for it. I think folks are going to have to ask some hard questions here. Like why China allowed so much unrestricted travel in and out of their country. China has one of the most rigid social governments, and could have, certainly, locked the country down, but they didn't. Europe, the middle east, Africa, Australian and the Americas have all been effected because of this decision to not isolate themselves. Their citizens, international travelers, all were allowed to leave China. China and its government seem entirely culpable here. Their decisions to forego protecting the rest of the world seems callous and perhaps calculated. For us, in the US, we had choices, we had poor information to base it on, and frankly, we don't seem to be getting quality information from those who should be able to provide it. The honest truth for me is that our leadership is being led by a coalition of "experts" who frankly are unable to, or in any useful way, advise our leadership on prudent and effective measures now that we find ourselves in the situation we do. If I look around the world news, we find often conflicting views within the medical experts as to how, or why the virus is currently spread. Actions that we've adopted, at least to some experts now seem entirely unlikely to stop or otherwise slow down the contagion. And yet, those same experts are being given the opportunity to implement their protective actions without any accountability for their prescriptions. If, for example, folks find, as they have in research from Germany, that the virus doesn't transfer from smear, or touching surfaces, then a lot of our efforts and our sacrifices are in vain. To be fair, folks don't know, and when they don't they revert to protocol even if no one knows if it is effective. That is where we find ourselves today. In the vacuum of "we don't know". To know this, we need our leadership to also "know" this. And take actions accordingly that might help both the spread, and the damage of the outbreak.
It's still very early in the day, but that's likely to be the most ridiculous thing I'll read or hear today... You might be able to make a case for term limits I might listen to, but not that...
He denied it, ridiculed it, trivialized it, called it a hoax, said it was like the flu, said it would magically go away, He did a lot more than ignore it. He denied it. It only sank into his thick head four days ago that a lot of people are going to die. The man is pathologically stupid.
Well he used to be pathologically mean and self centered but now can add on demented. He makes stuff up because his memory is gone and the only time he is coherent is when reading from a teleprompter. my guess is that even when he is supposedly answering questions they are feeding him answers on the teleprompter or in an earpiece. Of course since he appears to have the attention span of a mayfly he still manages to be confused and garble the answers. Time for that fashionable white coat with all the straps although it is too late to save America from the ravages of the virus.
Yes Trump out of necessity is attempting to portray himself as hero because he limited the death total from a million or so to only 100,000 to 250,000.
We've been very well informed of this problem for a LONG time. It's come from the CDC, experts in contagious disease, the military which points to bioweapons, TEDTalks by individuals and NGOs who have fought infectious diseae (such as the Gates Foundation in Africa and other places). Obama took action to create a team chartered to create a plan for pandemic response in the USA. We have FEMA - one model of how to address national emergencies, which has the power to help and has plans developed in conjunction with each state. Trump even killed that effort - let alone has he shown ANY interest in a coordinated response to a national emergency that HE declared. What we see today is a monumental failure of AMERICA - a failure that is continuing.
In Jail? For process crimes, lying to the FBI or so they say. They will all be pardoned due to a travesty of justice. The real criminals from the FBI will be prosecuted and lose their pensions.
A crime is a crime, Professor. You don't get to lie to the FBI, period. A pardon of any of them would be a travesty of justice. Their will be no indictments against those Trump perceives in the FBI as his enemies.
Odd that you claim all of this yet you campaigned for Democrats in 2016. I thought lying was against your code...? LOL I love spam bots. Too easy
How about looking at the voting record and rewarding those that can walk and chew gum at the same time, rather than assume nobody can. Bills passed through one body or the other, just like they did when Clinton was impeached, and when Nixon was nearly impeached. Decide which ones you like and reward those who voted for them.
