Few, I think, would argue that a democracy, in whatever form, is at its best when supported by a well-informed citizenry. I suggest that being well-informed in these days of on-line social sites, political polarization, and digital hanky-panky with text and pictures has become more difficult for the general citizenry. The percent of American voters, based upon numerous polls, who believe various conspiracy theories is large. There are now books available which can help us to recognize 'fake' news and conspiracy theories when we encounter them. Perhaps the information in them will become more readily available. Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . informed.
It's an oxymoron that we are living in the information age and yet we have never been so misinformed.
The need for a well informed, engaged citizenry is a point I have made dozens of times over the years. But I disagree slightly with your conclusion as to the ease or difficulty in achieving it. I believe those who are misinformed these days are willfully so given the ease of access to what is true. "The truth is out there" as the saying goes. Those among us who are deceived choose to be that way. For example, no one who believes in the Big Lie does not have the opportunity to avail themselves of the overwhelming evidence proving it is a fallacy. People are not forced to consume the lies from Faux, Gateway Pundit, Newsmax, Breitbart, the list is long. Those who do consume the lies make a conscious choice to be lazy, to be infotained, to not fulfill their responsibility to their fellow citizens to inform themselves with fact rather than propaganda.
Books that help you recognize fake news? Let me guess, they say anything you don't like, is fake news?...lol
the RW is out of control more than anytime in my life witness MTG and santos, they demonize AOC who actually is educated with government experiance, and dont forget boebet who got her GED after four attempts
Nearly a third of Americans — including six-in-10 Republicans — continue to hold the debunked belief that President Joe Biden didn’t win the 2020 presidential election legitimately, according to a new Monmouth University poll released the day before the House Jan. 6 Committee holds its latest public hearing. https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-pr...ve-biden-didnt-win-fair-square-2020-rcna49630 That is an example of people, 60% of Repubs, choosing to remain misinformed by choosing sources of info that willfully misinform them. In so doing they are letting the country down.
The 2020 election wasn't 100% legit. Laws were broken to help the Democrats. Anyone who doesn't know that is very uninformed.
Hi, Lee Atwater. As Moliere's Monsieur Jourdain, the bourgeois gentleman, pointed out, one can be doing something [Ed.: or not doing it.] without realization or awareness.. For people to make a choice there must be conscious awareness of the choice and, if it is to be made correctly, an understanding of the pros and cons involved. I submit that not all of my fellow h. sapiens are that self-reflective nor, for that matter, inclined to pursue a specific intellectual point. It's not a blame game, but rather an acceptance of the range of interests and abilities of our species. Regards, stay safe 'n well.
I very much appreciate you making my case for me. It comes as no surprise to anyone here familiar with your posts that you should be counted among the willfully misinformed. Making you a detriment to the country.
You're making my case by suggesting that were no improprieties during the 2020 election that helped Biden. Then, there's the fact that Leftists think Trump is a Russian agent. They think Trump called Neo-Nazis "fine people". I'm sure I'll get the chance to remind everyone of the Left's false beliefs. I gotta go cut grass, for now.
That's exactly what makes them willfully misinformed. Along with the saying about an informed citizenry the other component a healthy democracy requires is hard work by said citizenry. Not being inclined to pursue the truth, with the truth being easily ascertained, is a sign of apathy, of laziness. As Micheal Douglas said in the "American President," 'Democracy is not easy. You have to want it bad.'
i like seeing one side of a conversation and knowing that my life is made so much nicer with "wild" posters on "ignore."
Remember when y'all thought Trump said all Mexicans are rapists añd murderers? You all think gun control will stop murders. You think defunding the police was a good idea. The lies you people fall for are incredible...lol
People that "accept" social media as valid news sources.....Russian/Chinese et al fodder and also "local" radicalization targets.
Now THAT proves my point. Leftists don't want to hear ANYTHING that questions what they've been told, fore it may cause them to question what they've been told.
Oh yay, another “I’m a smart elite and you’re a stupid peasant” thread. it’s amazing how many times the same posters say the same thing over and over again and act like it’s an original thought each time. But I guess when the point is to self stroke yourself you can’t help but to repeat the process. Feels too good eh?
Look at the lefts beliefs in the conspiracy theory that it’s possible to change your sex. That’s the largest conspiracy theory known in this country these days
Hey OP, why don’t you go open up a new thread on guns. It’s been SO long since the last one. At least 5 mins for sure! You know…the time it takes for your memory to reset back to zero and you to think your next thought isn’t something you’ve said a million times before. LOL
