    What is the utilization?

I keep getting blown away by Kenya’s capacity and plans around geothermal. i found these videos from just a couple of weeks ago

    And again nothing about utilization?

If you have a point to make, make it, and do your own homework. I never let people copy my work in Academia, and I’m certain not going to do your work for you.

That’s a nice video. The first step of solving a problem is to get buy-in that the problem exists. I read somewhere that Africa has more potential for solar energy than any country in the world. Coupled with their hydroelectric potential, there is some real low-hanging fruit to harvest.

My point is obvious. What is the utilization of this added capacity?

Adding capacity is meaningless. Utilization of that added capacity is meaningful.

Which you have no answer for. Engineers clearly understand that adding capacity is meaningless. Utilization of that added capacity is meaningful.

That’s not a response of a professional engineer.

From my post earlier, I was wondering how Burkina Faso became the 2nd largest renewable energy country. Although its population is large, at over 23 million, It’s a relatively small country. It seems that biofuels are the main source.

That would be wood and charcoal.

Which have an energy roi of ~ 2. This energy source is not sufficient to support the modern society of developed nation states.

Exactly. That's why there is so much low hanging fruit in Africa. Geographically they have the most potential for solar in the world.

Implementation of wind and solar would doom African economies to permanently guarantee a low standard of living. Poverty is the most important problem facing developing countries. Inexpensive electricity available 24/7 is the key to economic development. Wind and solar are not available 24/7.

But if biofuels are classed as renewables, where's the climate gain with solar?

You are correct. And that is probably one of the reasons that atmospheric CO2 is still on a steep rise.

But if biofuels are renewables, aren't they considered part of the solution?

But if biofuels aren't part of the solution why does the EU count them that way? Shouldn't the Africans get the same deal?

Ethanol and bio diesel are not part of the green renewable plan to replace fossil fuels?

Because it’s a renewable source. I’m not criticizing this small African country. Arguably They’re making the best of their situation, with very little in the way of financial resources. I tend to be more critical of the US. We have huge financial resources, and instead of seeking out solutions to a problem, we exacerbate the problem. A great case-in-point are the plastics that we litter throughout the world.

Now you're trying to change subject.
Wood and charcoal have been African staple fuels for thousands of years.
