Actually it does come from a desire to be like a darker ethnicity; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_tanning FYI, this is the color Bronze; That looks pretty brown to me. Logically speaking; If you view this skin tone as more attractive than your pasty white skin tone, then clearly you view the people who naturally possess that skin tone as being more attractive than you are. White women are risking death to look like brown women. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/a...n-cancer-rising-rapidly-young-U-S-adults.html What a pity.
Black women have always been made to feel ashamed of looking so dark because it marked them as outcasts from the main stream of society during the days of segregation. Black men straightened their hair too. Malcolm X wrote a bit about that. Of course, these days, people are becoming more accepting of the idea that women other than their own kind can be beautiful and sexy. Mostly, it requires that they first have contact with them as human beings of equal status. That's why you will see so many more mixed couples of all descriptions around military installations. It was thought a little wierd for a white man to marry an Asian prior to WWII. Then GIs started bringing home war brides. Now about 25% of the couples I know are white/Asian. The day does not go by now when I do not see a white male/black woman couple, probably several, if I go over to McChord or Ft Lewis. I have noticed, too, that in most cases, regardless the racial mix, the kids always seem healthy and beautiful. The mixing is good for the species. Live with it.
Obviously people differ in all sorts of ways, but there are no 'races' at all. That is just archaic thinking, based on the need to 'justify' colonialism and slavery.
Gotta agree with most of this. Two of the hottest actresses in Hollywood right now are Zoe Saldana, and Paula Patton. Good luck finding a straight man of any ethnicity who thinks either of these women aren't hot.
I married a black woman in 1980, when it wasn't so acceptable. What I see the problem is your definition. You see these various different peoples reaction to your mixed relationship, and call it racism. I would call it degrees of prejudicial uttered opinions from different color spectrums and age categories.
It wasn't a concession. I am actually correct here. Western Culture's views on attractive skin tones have gone back and forth for centuries and for various reasons. very few of them has to do with wanting to look like another ethnicity.
That's two of how many? Your assertion is dumb. Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry to name a couple who have light skin tones. Your point is understood, but not a universal truth on the matter.
I never disagreed with your assertion about western culture going back and forth on the beauty of tanning. However, it's obvious that the current trend was started by women of influence wanting to look like an African American dancer.
Dude! Selena Gomez looks Hispanic. So does Jennifer Lopez. We just are not limited to thinking that only one racial type is beautiful any more. Your point is understood, but not a universal truth on the matter.
It's obvious you overlooked several factors into why sun tanning became popular in America. Now, I enjoy a nice looking Italian or Latin girl or Black Girl but the assertion that it's done because whites wanted to look like blacks is just not true. We are going to have to agree to disagree. Considering that it wasn't due to a Black Dancer that white people started sun tanning.
Getting back to the OP's issue, it seems like it has more to do with living in a large cosmopolitan city, rather than the difference between the UK and the US. I doubt you would have had any issues if you lived in New York or LA, as opposed to Nashville.
lol..So there are no white women with natural "Brazilian butts"? I have news for you...there are tons. I'm betting that there are as many flat butted Brazilian woman as there are Brazilian butted white women. When a woman, any woman, tries to enhance their backside this has nothing to do with raec. A tanned person looks slimmer and more defined. A tanned person looks healthier. These are today's standards mind you. 100+ years ago pasty skin was thought to me more attractive. Black skin, (read not tanned), is not considered attractive (by most Americans). Even blacks make fun of each other for being "too black".
Yes, because too Black is too Beautiful. This causes envy and can be a real problem. White skin is just horrible, that is why us whites would all die for a nice dark brown tan come summer. End of discussion.
I always liked the USA (through movies, Hollywood, Pop culture etc.) and always wanted to pay a visit but i heard many bad things about America from People.
If you and your wife are happy, why care? Ignore everyone else. Do right by her and make it a strong marriage.
I've always thought Europe to be more racist than America, but then I live in Northern California. Also I'd expect London to be better than a lot of places though. It's a shame that there are some places in American that are still like that even after the civil rights movement, its not like that everywhere though. Anything goes here.
