When 90% of the professors are self-proclaimed Marxists these things happen.

It sure seems that way. I know at one point, I thought the point of school (at least college) was to open students minds, not brainwash them.

Why do I get the impression that this video is little more than Fox news propaganda? I am friends with quite a few folks under 30 and not one has such an attitude.

Well. In some way propaganda of Conservative. And what students say I don't see it bad. More I believe that is the way to not lose the welfare state.

Believing that the the next generation is going to be a degenerate one has been an international past time for hundreds of years. What, do people really think that college students 30-40 years ago wouldn't dare write these kinds of things?

You realize there's a lot of pressure on us now? Colleges are being more selective as to who they want in.

Sure, that makes perfect sense -- the rich are taking shuttles into space and the poor can't afford to go to the dentist, it must be because poor people are lazy and greedy.

Sadly, this is not surprising at all. But I think that while the school system certainly plays a part in it, it is not the only cause. There are other factors as well. Technology has made us all lazy and created a push-button-instant-gratification mentality in a lot of people. And kids that are growing up today who have never known a world without it will see hard work as an alien concept and won't want to do it because it's "haaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrd....."[/whiny voice].

Our culture also glorifies get rich quick lifestyles like those of celebrities. Kids look at that and think money comes easy. But what they don't see is all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to attain that success. Big time stars who flaunt their extravagance on tv often times do not have time to even enjoy those things in real life because they are too busy working. Multi-millionaire CEOs like Jay-Z, Diddy, and 50 Cent work harder and sleep less than the average schmuck who is caught up in the rat race. That's why they are where they are. They even talk about this in interviews. But that's not the message kids receive.

Then there is the family issue. With the absence of a father figure in roughly half the homes in America (as well as the misandrist gender war against masculinity in society), too many children have become soft from excessive coddling. Look at how bad the bullying problem has gotten. We're now passing anti-bully laws because kids are too weak to stand up for themselves. And they're not even encouraged to try. Because if they do stand up to a bully, they get punished for fighting. This is the kind of castration and coddling the average kid in this country is growing up in. When you take this into consideration, is it any wonder that so many of them expect the government to take care of them? Everyone's been doing everything for them their entire lives. So they have the same attitude as spoiled rich kids. They think they're helpless. A lot of these kids will continue to be supported by mommy and daddy well into their twenties.

Peter Pan Syndrome is real, and it's dangerous. It's an epidemic. And until we cure the disease, it will continue to eat away at all of our freedoms. The only way for the entitlement era to end is for people to finally grow up.

This is nothing more than petty envy. You're begrudging people for having more than others. It is a legitimately bad thing that some people cannot afford important things, but if they can't take responsibility for their own situation, then they deserve to be there. Nobody owes anybody anything. And if you believe otherwise, then you are caught up in the very problem this thread was designed to address.

Here's the cold, hard truth. You can waste your life pointing the finger at everyone else and die exactly where you are, or you can look in the mirror, acknowledge things for what they are, and climb your way out. In the end, the only thing that separates the haves from the have-nots is that the haves are willing to do this. While the have-nots are too busy making excuses.

I want you to watch this video. This is Larry Winget. He grew up dirt poor, became a self-made millionaire, went broke, and then became a self-made millionaire again. The man has made a million dollars from scratch TWICE in his life. Unless you have also done this, yourself, I'd like you to suspend your skepticism for a minute and listen to what he has to say....

It's a nice video, And I agree that stealing from others to fund your dream can be considered morally wrong. I wouldn't want to outright steal from people unless I absolutely had to.

But don't you think the acts of corporate sabotage, mass media influence, outsourcing to countries that do not share our labor and environmental regulations, etc. are also wrong? Why is it ok for one group of people (Corporate Executives and such) to be greedy, but not the poor? Is it okay as long as you can get away with it by either bribing the government, by coercion or extortion, or by brute force?

You want those college kids to bootstrap up? You want them to end their greedy views? Then you also have to nip the greedy views of the other groups as well. In a world with masses of people living together, with the potential of both great and terrible things, and where our children learn from all they see and hear around them, we all stand or fall together.

    Thank you for your time.

As a person a little over 30, I find it completely idiotic for anyone to call the younger voters of today the "gimme" generation. Seriously what the (*)(*)(*)(*) have we been left with? The dumb (*)(*)(*)(*)s that are 50+ pretty much sent us down the crapper. You voted for government services paid for by your income and payroll taxes. Now, you want to leave us folks holding the freaking bag and pull some guilt trip "we're old" nonsense when we complain about getting screwed. I would say that the overwhelming support that Ron Paul receives from young voters says that in actuality, they want to stop being a piggy bank for the actual gimme generation.

If you think it is bad now, just wait until you see the bill liberals will leave the next generation.

Well, that's an awful lot to chew off with no concrete examples of what you're talking about. You'll have to elaborate on the corporate sabotage comment. As for labor regulations, I have no idea why you feel other countries must abide by our set of rules. I've worked all my life since I was in my early teens and felt it was an excellent foundation for me, and taught me money management at a very early age. Businesses will do what they need to do to survive. If they can't afford the price of labor in the states due to things like union demands for lavish compensation packages, they will look elsewhere (and that include building in areas or countries that give them a tax advantage). All you have to do is look to California for great examples of that and excessive environmental regulations (if you didn't notice, they're practically bankrupt...and yet the clueless Liberals still want to build a high speed rail). I find nothing wrong whatsoever with people being greedy. I'm sure you are and I am too. As long as that greed is due to people being ambitious, entrepreneurial, and following law abiding practices, I say the more the merrier. But as you said, don't steal from me to fund your dream if I've earned the money myself. The greedy views you mentioned of these college students are indeed based on achieving their dreams by taking from others....not earning it themselves. Speaking of greed, here's Milton Friedman with one of my favorite videos.

I agree with this for the most part, but I will soon quickly disagree if you support CEO's using oppressed labor in China etc. That's just oppression, not hard work.

Here are a couple links to take a look at, Although in my opinion, anyone that thinks that things like this do not happen at all are delusional. Obviously, it's harder to prove things like this, as corporations use intimidation to keep their employees from ratting them out.

And yeah, I know that companies will do whatever it takes to make a buck, that is the point. You say it's okay for them to do morally questionable things and tactics to reap their profits as long as it's legal?

That's okay. After all, slavery was legal at one time in the USA, until the morality of the issue caused enough people to take notice and get the laws changed. Don't come crying to me or the rest of us when those masses of poor people work together to get the laws changed to benefit them at the expense of the rich.

After all, you're all for greed, right? Well, you get what you ask for.

    Thank you for your time.

I get this. Honest. I agree, even. In a spiritual sense, and in a practical sense for people that get it.

That doesn't change the fact that not everybody gets it. Not everybody can. Some things just don't make sense to most people. You can't quite teach everybody to read, either.

What do you intend to do with the people that can't, or won't, do whatever they want? And don't tell me your options are limited after the post you just made. What do you choose to do?

Leave them to die in their own poverty and if they dare revolt, use State Authority to crush them where they stand.

Rebellion agianst a legitimate society is a crime against humanity.

I think we should both revolt and (hopefully eventually) use state authority to dismantle Big Land Rent and also the Chinese government which gives their laborers no rights.

Corporations aren't human, and they hijacked the legal parameter dubbing them "a person". No great loss I don't think.

I use to think differently, but now I realize that most self-proclaimed capitalists aren't capitalist; they're greed-ists.

They are as legitimate a grouping of people as Grandma's bridge club donating some of their bridge money to the local district selectman.

I mean really, you are really trying to say that certain groups of people shouldn't be able to express their support for a candidate in monetary form while other groups can. That is discriminatory.

Donations to political campaigns should be made in the name of human beings. To do otherwise doesn't hold politicians accountable.
