President Abbas made significant progress toward a unity government.

Israel hated that and issued economic penalties, blocked diplomatic travel, and otherwise successfully worked to scuttle that direction.

So, at least there is some belief among Palestinians that such a direction is possible, given that Israel doesn't have the tools and will to end it.

The question is how dedicated is the IDF to refrain from killing aid workers, press, children, doctors/nurses, the wounded, etc.

An "honest mistake" comes when there is an effort made.

The idea that this is a mistake is seriously hard to support, given the statements of the IDF on their objectives, and their practice on the ground.

 

The United Nations created a two state solution in 1947. Both Jews and Arabs have populated the area for more than 2 millennia.

 

The IDF mission is to eradicate the 4 battalions of Hamas terrorists in Rafah. Then there will be a mopping up including neutralizing all the underground tunnels and shelters aided by the Gazan civilians. This is exactly what the Gazan civilians want.

Hamas is setting the pace on the ground and in negotiations between themselves and Israel - with Blinken being a "shuttle diplomat".

Israel has lost MASSIVELY in terms of the opinion of the world, and has failed to respond to directions by the US, the ICJ and the UNSC.

Where do you get your ideas of what is going on? It doesn't match with what the US, Israel, Hamas, or anyone else is saying. It's not what Mossad is working on.

Also, it WAS an Israeli goal to turn Palestinian civilians against Hamas, but that is clearly NOT working.
