This is a good point. Still, it would probably be best to change the precedent at this point.

I realize that it might be a moot point since think tanks do a lot of the work of writing legislation and lobbyists seem to have bought everyone, but yeah... Giffords probably should have a stand in until she's fully recovered.

Otherwise, this borders on exploitation.

1) I am sure that with the state of modern tchnology, it would have been acceptable for Gabby to "X" in her vote electronically in front of witnesses, but perhaps she was eager to get back to Congress to give her vote in person. I think we should respect that.

2) I think that her appearance could have been another step forward in her therapy to get on with her life nd resume her job that she was elected to do. To assume anything else is a particular form of partisanship and/or an extreme form of judgmentalism.

The ultimate form of bipartisanship would have been to have both parties rejoice in her recovery enough to have been able to appear for her vote.

 

The shooter was a liberal, but don't let that stop you.

Watching Giffords recover is remarkable. A woman in her early 40s (late 30s?), after being shot in the head through the frontal and temporal lobe (usually insta-kill), has a brain recovering steadily and quickly.

I am so impressed as to how our body recovers, and how the brain can repair itself and its cognitive function, even if a bullet rips off a portion of the brain.

And I am envious of Giffords recovery and spirit after this. God speed.

letter of resignation which was read on the floor by her * close friend Debbie Wasserman Schultz.


* I have my suspicions about that claim.I am still researched the claim that Wasserman-Schultz
even knew Giffords but in passing as a fellow Congress person PRIOR to the fatal
Tucson shooting.
