Trump is much less a historical person and more like a conceptual inversion of all of the aesthetics and ethics associated with Neoliberalism. His cultists are less interested in what he actually does and more in a strictly adversarial desire to not only beat their opponents, but to do it in the most humiliting way possible.

I won't deny that I would take immense pleasure in watching progressive lose and become marginalized to the point of obscurity. The economy is doing great and money talks. In the end, come mid term elections, the Dems don't have much to run on except "Trump is a racist."

You're not wrong about the Democrats. They don't inspire people, they don't offer any potential for change, all they can offer is being the guardians of a status quo that everyone hates.

 

Obama inspired me. While I was too young to vote for Bill Clinton, in listening to his old campaign speeches, he inspired too.

Nancy Pelosi, Keith Ellison, and Perez are not inspiring. They are just filling the white/black/Muslim/Hispanic quota.

This would be exactly my strategy for Trump. This would be the moment to ''soften up'' those voters who are on the brink of deserting him. (Not per se because of the slur-saga.)
Trump should offer those voters some apology to show that he is actually capable of remorse.
Because people expect an apology, you'd expect people to be ready for it.

This is the moment to cash in on their will to forgive!

Alas, arrogant Trump is not smart enough to understand the positive-psychology of this tactic. He's just a dumb ape who wants to go on insulting people.

For years politicians used spin to mislead people. Then there came the shows that examined the spin. So those who pay attention began to see the spin for what it was. We still get the spin but understand that it's often bs. Now the right has taken the position that as long as they can spin it, no matter how absurd, no matter how trivial or obvious, no matter how dishonest, spin is truth.
