Sen. Bernie Sanders has proposed a constitutional amendment that would overturn the Supreme Court decision in a case called Citizens United vs. FEC.

The Saving American Democracy Amendment states that:

-Corporations are not persons with constitutional rights equal to real people.
-Corporations are subject to regulation by the people.
-Corporations may not make campaign contributions or expenditures.
-Congress and states have the power to regulate campaign finances.

It goes to show that "socialists" aren't so bad after all.

Political donations shouldn't be considered free speech. It's one of the most grossly misinterpreted aspects of the Constitution ever.

Hold on where is the unions in this petition? Shouldn't they also be banned from contributing their union dues to campaigns also, or is this just against corporations. I would be for a ban from any organizations directly contributing to campaigns.

Well unions represent people, corporations represent profits. I would be for getting any money out from politics up to funding elections publicly.

Corporations represent people, hell some companies are employee owned.

Unions should be the same as corps with donations.

Well it seems that many of those who pay those dues have no choice on where that campaign monies goes. Unions support the Democratic party, it seems corporations, run by persons tend to donate willingly to the politician of their choice. Why wouldn't anyone support a total ban on all organizations donations? Could it have anything to do with Unions /Dems afraid corporations can outspend unions? Thanks for the spin anyway!

The main purpose of a corporation is to make profit and have limited liability. These are main things that corps represent everything else is irrelevant.

Also agreed. But I'll take what I can get for now. You should start that petition. I will sign it.

So what. Companies are affected by who is in office an who gets elected.

They should be able to contribute to whoever they want.

I'm for getting money out from politics. Don't care much about unions spending however I wouldn't place them on the same scales with corporations.

Who do unions support, certainly not employees that are forced to pay them to work. Unions support union bosses who enjoy regular visits with Obama. Corporations have to make a profit to survive, unlike the government/unions taxpayers pay their wages! I'm sure many would support a total ban on all campaign contributions from large organizations. It would seem, that it would be more supported if the petition would cover that aspect.

And as result you get lobbyists writing laws and politicians who are completely corrupt... I thought conservatives are against corruption in government.

I don't see how anyone could be against this. I do agree that maybe Unions should be added in there too. But it certainly would be a step in the right direction. And that's enough of a reason to support it.

As a result of unions work I have 40 hours work day, paid vacations and holidays. If that would be up to corporations I would be still working 60 hours like back in the days before unions...

Were you for or against the stimulus? because that was written by those who seeked something to benefit from it.

We have elections in this county which allows the citizens to throw crooked bums out. Corruption only exists when you have a willing partner. Kick out the representatives that you trusted enough to garner your vote, throw enough out they begin to get the message!

Kicking doesn't work. The whole way of doing business in Washington is corrupt by it's nature. That must be changed and taking out corporate money from elections is good first step.
