Ann Coulter: "U.S Soccer fans a sign of moral decay"

Coulter argues the reason people are watching soccer now is because of Sen. Edward Kennedy's 1965 immigration law.

"I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer," she wrote. "One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time."

She also says soccer is not a "real sport." A real sport, she argues, requires individual achievement and "the prospect of either personal humiliation or major injury."

"Do they even have MVPs in soccer? Everyone just runs up and down the field and, every once in a while, a ball accidentally goes in," she wrote.

Tweeters also joined in on the chorus of criticism.

"Ann Coulter meets a new low. I have no words. Probably the worst column I've read. And I don't even like soccer," one person tweeted.

Trolling or not, this latest stunt of publicity from Coulter is just plain sad. Plus, her attempts at shock just aren't entertaining anymore, and it comes off as desperate.

Why do libs care if soccer is popular in America or not?

She's correct that the game appeals more to the people without deep roots America.

Thats the origin of the reference to ted kennedy and the 1965 changes to the immigration law.

The left has been trying to forcibly change the demographics of this country since at least that long.

And the popularity of a foreign sport like soccer is one measure of their progress.

Another quote from that cretinous woman demonstrating how utterly clueless she is in a feeble attempt at getting herself publicity. Has she got another of her idiotic books coming out? Nobody calls Association Football 'soccer', ever, just for starters. I'm just surprised she isn't running for political office; she's so dumb that she'd be a perfect Republican candidate.

 

That was a pretty offensive article.
But parts weren't true?

 

She needs to shut up.

 

Unfortunately she seems incapable of not embarrassing herself every time she opens her mouth. What's worse is that she's oblivious to how embarrassing she is. Conservatives love her, though. Wonder why?

Ann believes the theory that any publicity is good publicity.

 

The term 'Soccer' originated in the UK, it was an abbreviation of association football - if Brits have a problem with Americans using the term then they're to blame for popularizing it first.

Same with "football" - back in the day Rugby was called "Rugby football", so when Americans developed their own version of Rugby the term stuck.

 

Nobody in England calls football 'soccer'. I should know, I live here. Rugby is still called 'Rugby football'. How do I know? Same answer.

 

Conservatives like myself don't love her. She's an extremist and I don't like extremists.

I love soccer and have played it, ref'd it, trained players and coached it.

 

I like (in an ironic sort of way) though how all someone like Coulter or Limbaugh has to do is open their mouth and it gets a thread in Current Events (how is "shock jock says something shocking" a current event anyway?).

I don't like or listen to either of them (or any political talk shows) but what a lot of guys on the left don't realize is that they're just taking the bait everytime they post a thread on something stupid a right-wing talk show host says - they're "shock jocks" who say controversial or stupid stuff because they know it'll get media attention, and a lot of liberals take the bait and just give them free publicity

I agree with Ann on most of her post, but she neglected one simple fact.

Soccer is a game for leftys.

You cant use your hands

Everyone cheers when no one scores

and the most exciting "play" is when someone pretends to get injured and roles around on the ground, attempting to evoke an emotional response from the referee

That's funny, because one of my cousins shared this with me on FB this morning. We both watched the game.

Both sides of his family are DAR, (as am I), and he can add the .mfl appendage to his signature if he chooses to!

One of the guys who I watched the game with comes from a very prominent Pennsylvania Dutch family that goes back to well before the Revolution, too!
