There was the thread recently about anti-war/peace songs. It occured to me I didn't know of any such songs outside of the west. On the other hand I don't really know much Russian music written after Tchaikovsky's time. I'm hoping somebody here can fill me in on if such songs exist(ed).

Why would you say that? I suppose during much of the Soviet era you could get killed or sent to a camp for singing things the government didn't like. But was it like that the whole time? In any case you've been "Russia" again for a while now and I'd think people would be able to sing what they like. Or does the reporter whacking thing extend to musicians as well?
