No because if we look today at the under devoloped countries like africa who have christians, they act uncivilized and kill children who they label as witches and kill homosexuals that they label abomonations to mankind.

This is also seen in the US where the christians are uncivilized when it comes to homosexuals and don't want them in the military or married.

Western Civilization seems to have come about by opportunity, the europeans were in cold climates and had to organize civilizations or face extinction due to survival of the fittest laws.

Christianity was an easy way to indoctrinate minds into being civilized but it wasn't the true cause of western civilization

    Your thoughts?

Yes--and specifically, the Catholic Church should be given much credit.

The people who came up with western civilization happened to be Christians, but that was not a requirement. Any other religion would have worked just as well.

Yes, Christianity brought on Western Civilization. And regarding the African witch thing... from what I read.....that happens with people who aren't really Christian but mix voodoo type religion with symbols of christianity. Once you fail to practice the true and rather easy to understand tenants of Christianity...you aren't a Christian. And chaos can ensue.

What does that have to do with being civilized? I am not against either of those things, but I don't think that civilization hinges on them. If it's uncivilized to bar marriage to homosexuals, then it's uncivilized to do was you would do - use violence against peaceful people in order to force them to follow your preferences.

Is this the example Christ gave? No. Why then is Christianity being blamed?

Then again, I am not accustomed to hearing about Christians doing such things. Do you have any links? I'm only accustomed to hearing of Muslims in their pursuit of genocide against the Christian Sudanese or the persecution of the Islamic Brotherhood against Christians in Egypt etc.

If these things are being done in the name of Christ then these people are simply ignorant.

You have got to be kidding me. Any person who get MY tax dollars is a political target and suspect. That is the real issue here. In my opinion, the state should not be involved in marriage whether it be homo or heterosexual in nature, bottom line!! Why should the state show preferential treatment to married folk over single folk or polygamists?

In terms of the military, my problem is that soldiers simply don't need the distraction. In fact, I'm opposed to women being in the military for the very same reason. There is no way around affairs occuring in the military, which can cause problems on the battle field whether it is to scorn a jilted lover or protect their lover over another soldier, or even having affairs on the front lines etc.

Pagan Greeks and Romans laid the groundwork, not Christians. And regarding the African voodoo thing, what would you say about those in Salem who were killed for being witches? A lot of voodoo going down in Massachussetts?

What about the Crusades? What about the Spanish Inquisitions etc?

I suppose for Christianity to be a "good" and "true" religion, such blemishes would not exist.

It's their own farlt. They should tell sinners that they are not welcomed. :)

God, do you even think before you open your mouth or type on the keyboard?

It's not the Christians we hear about time and time again in Africa, plus roughly 47% of all Africans are Muslim (Islam is Africas largest religion) and Christianity really only exists in Sub-Saharan areas. Unless you're going to tell me all the violence in Africa is because of the Coptic Christians or the Ethiopian Christians.

I do love the attack on Christianity while you completely overlook the heinous crimes committed Muslims.

How are they uncivilized? By voting? By protesting? Oh God, those monsters! How dare they have their own opinion which may differ from you. God forbid.

    Get over yourself.

The greek and roman religions worked not to create the western world. "The western world" (Okzident) and "the eastern world" (Orient) have nothing to do with the fairytales from 1001 night or with seddlers rolling westward in celtic wagons. It's in both cases Rome: West = original Rome - East = Konstantinople. Not to forget that Celts and Germans 'always' liked to be part of the greek-roman civilization - as members and not as slaves. Unfortunatelly the Romans (the greek culture) decided to die - so we can say it was somehow a christian wonder that we brought the greek-roman culture back into life and made it to the leading culture in this world.
