I never said.....don't learn Spanish, or don't learn another language. That's ridiculous! Of course it's nice to know some different languages. I've read that it's actually good for the brain to study more than one language. That's why they offer Spanish, French and other languages starting in high school. They even teach a little bit of it in early grade school. My little pre-school grandson can sing songs in Spanish. That's taught at a Christian pre-school! They also teach a few words in kindergarten and first grade (public schools) as well. It's fun to learn other languages and study other cultures. BUT, it's also important to get the kids educated here to our FIRST language....which is English. Classes are instructed in English (as they should be), testing is given in English (as they should be), and the TAKS tests are taken in English (as they should be). And yes, we also have the ESL help for those at the lower levels of elementary schools and those who have just gotten here and know little or no English. That cost taxpayers....but we are willing to do it, because most of us believe it's a good thing.

there are about a dozen groups who do have standing with the court to challenge such a law if it is passed by Congress. Furthermore, the question still remains, will SCOTuS overturn the law based on the law merits. Nearly every Constitutional scholar have said yes. Hence why a Constitutional amendment is the only way to go if you want an English only law.

Yes, and that you need to understand that judicial review will be used to determine whether the law meets Constitutional guidelines.

When you start making statements about "European Spanish" yes you have discussed the Spanish language. Again, stop with this moronic line of arguments.

You make a passionate argument, but I think the fear is, not you specifically, is that if such a law was passed, other languages being offered as part of the educational experience would also drop because of said law. That is the biggest fear. And history has shown us that English only movments tend to squash diversity, and language, of a specific region such as in 1803.

We could make a law that only legal documents should be written in English.

I think the languages are Chinese (as opposed to "Chindese"), English and Malay. Singapore was exclaved from Malaysia since Malaysia did not want a Christian-majority city dominating its polity.
Actually, the U.S. required Louisiana to make English official as part of accepting it as a state since it did not want the Acadians (now called "Cajuns" to have the right to force French on arriving settlers from what was then U.S.A. proper.

When I was in school we had foreign students who literally couldn't speak english. They had a translator to help them learn but their English was very broken and the only time you ever saw them feel at home socially was when they were speaking with people from the same area and they could speak their own language.

I don't know why you'd want to take that away from children who are already having a lot of trouble learning in school because of their language barriers.

It's best if we do not make English our official language. It's best if we encourage people to be multilingual. This is how we remain a competative country in an increasingly global market. The more multilingual people we have in our country the more clients we can sell to. The more clients we sell to worldwide the more likely other countries would prefer us being on top as opposed to a homogeneous society like China.

Ahh... you mean the pale-skin variety of caucasian.

Well, he should have just said so.

One of the palest is Russian, and I haven't seen much Russian influence in the new world, except for pre-American Alyaska, although, I suppose the trade Russians did with Cuba might count, except it wasn't enough to compel Cubans to switch language from Spanish to Russian.

I cannot remember a time where our public schools were taught in any other language other than English. And that has NOT "squashed diversity." Our nation is a true melting pot of all kinds of cultures and ethnic backgrounds who came here and then became AMERICANS. IF they hadn't wanted to do that, they wouldn't have come in the first place.

You may think they have standing, that doesn't mean they do, as there would be nothing to challenge. If they had standing, why have they sued the states that has English as the official language, and LOST? :roflol:

After it has become law by both Congress and the President signing it, it is law until it is challenged. If its not challenged, then it is assumed to meet Constitutional guidelines.

No, I didn't/haven't, because you fail to place into context and comprehend my comment to another person, you feel you need to put your nose into something where it didn't belong and then tell me all about your ignorance of comprehension of my comment. Maybe you should refrain from thinking you know everything all the time, because quite obviously, you don't. :roflol:

The Spanish from Europe where European Spanish from 1492 - 1821, in 1821 those very same Spanish then became Mexican Spanish. Don't try reading what you want to into a comment that had no bearing on you or your conversation with someone else, unless you can correctly place into context and comprehend the comment. You've demonstrated many times so far that you can't.

The question is, how do you define "American?"

Given our history of immigration, that definition is hard to define.

Doch? Eigentlich, glaubst du das? Besser mag ich Deutsch!

Hey, I'd rather speak German anyway. But, at the rate we're going, we'll be speaking Swahili a hell of a lot sooner than we would ever be speaking German. If Obama keeps on ****ing around with Putin, we may end up speaking Russian instead....

How many people of European descent still live in those countries........remember that the blacks killed off all the Whites and mixed race folks a few hundred years ago.......and Haiti went from being the most prosperous French colony to the annual winner of poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

That is not entirely accurate, in my opinion.

Haiti was forced to pay France reparations, starting a cycle of debt that has extended almost 200 years.

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/haiti-...and-colonialism-and-international-aid/5334619

Hence, Haiti has in some degree always been poor and not just because they are black.

Having standing means they have the legal authority to challenge the law. Like I said, there is about 12 groups that could challenge the law if said law was passed. Whether they win or not will be based on the Constitutional arguments both for and against said law.

You earlier claimed it would be challenged and they would win.

You might want to check on that judicial review process, it won't work in this case.

Never claimed anything of the sort. Now go back and try again.
