Lol, I am not making any arguments about what is woke and read at that meeting being inappropriate in schools. Someone else is terrified that kids will learn something about gays and trans people from that book in school that the same someone wanted to read at that meeting. For all I know 1.there is nothing inappropriate in there at all and the reason people objected to the reading had to do with other policies or rules and maybe it was ruled out of order or 2. there was something in there that was inappropriate both places because kids are present in both places.

 

Ye gods. This'll be the 3rd time I've shared this example (not to mention a dozen media links reporting on this very issue in school districts nationwide). From the "graphic novel" Genderqueer: A Memoir. Just one example of the porn parents would rather not have peddled to their minor children at school. Do you find it appropriate or inappropriate?

Probably too graphic for even some 16-17 yr old highschoolers.. But then I would not be reading it into the record of a school board and I sure would not object if the school board decided not to have it read there if they don't know what's in there. . Instead I would ask to submit a copy into the record and hand out copies to them. They are not asking looking for ID at the front door.

I'll extend the benefit of the doubt & presume you're not up to speed. The issue is school boards DO know what's in there and have stocked their libraries with this material anyway, despite the objections of parents. When concerned parents appear before the board to specify what they're objecting to, they're shut down, and in many cases escorted out by law enforcement.

The issue isn't decorum & procedure at school board meetings - sorry if I gave the wrong impression. The issue is: does pornography depicting explicit sex with minors have any place in primary school libraries? We're 80 or 90 posts into this thread. I've posed that question several times. It's a yes or no question that no one here has been able to answer.

The Church indeed preserved the culture, but then opposed any change in it for a thousand years. They opposed the Renaissance.

Nobody is destroying anything. Our culture is changing in accordance with precepts found in the European Enlightenment. You need to study that.

As a card carrying heathen, I have no problem with the Bible in school libraries. Right alongside the Talmud, Koran, Taisho shinsu daizokyo, et al.

Not to mention novels like To Kill a Mockingbird & Huckleberry Finn, removed from many school libraries for being insufficiently woke (unlike Genderqueer: A Memoir, which is super woke). When those of us on the right complained, we were admonished that it's not banning or censorship - those books are available at public libraries, and for purchase from vendors.

I'm tempted to say something like 'good for the goose, good for the gander,' but I'm not that childish.

 

The Curch civilized the barbarians and created what is known as Christendom. The Church, of course, was a great patron of the arts. Think Michaelangelo. The Curch built the great Cathedrals. Think Notre Dame. It inspired great music. Think Bach.

I think it you consult the chart I copied above you find that woke desparages many of the values of the Enlightenment as Whiteness. Woke disdains excellence in favor of equity. Thus they dismantle AP courses and elite high schools. If you value the Enlightenment and Progress you should abjure wokeness.

The barbarians were as civilized as the Romans, they had very few contests to the death or executions for entertainment. The only value I see that woke disparages is that women must be subordinate to their husbands and are only fit to be homemakers. Woke values excellence and equity alike and believes that neither can truly exist without the other. Woke believes that the values of the Enlightenment and Woke are the same and any thing setting the two at odds are perversions which must be eschewed.

It's all about context. A contemporary analogue could be the n-word in Huckelberry Finn & To Kill a Mockingbird, which your side has seen fit to nuke from school libraries. Because the Holy Church of Woke believes history - even when fictional - is to be eradicated when its details offend the delicate sensibilities of the faith.

I think the most notable Biblical account of incest may be Lot & his daughters in the Old Testament. The book of Corinthians advises the Old Testament is to be regarded as an accurate historical account of the people involved; to be cited as an example of their victories, their failures, and their sin. Spoiler alert: the Bible does not celebrate the incest committed by Lot & his ilk. It's condemned as the opposite. Unlike the Holy Church of Woke, the rest of us don't run away from history and its lessons.
