Asian racism. Why don’t we hear much about it?

It’s been a common theme over the last several years, decades to be honest, where racism against Asians has been an issue. It seems like only one flavor of racism is to note on a national level, and it’s a daily conversation here. We have racial equality in the news pretty much on a daily basis.
I don’t see much addressing anti asian racism.

also, no one talks about Asians who don’t like other asian cultures. It’s a thing and anyone who has a significant exposure to asians or spends time in different asian communities knows exactly what I’m asking about.

thoughts? Yes, I’m eating home made Chinese food for dinner as I type.

Asian Racism for $200. I'll take a wild guess that it's because Black people are the largest offender of Asian Racism, but merely mentioning and exposing Asian hating Black Racists is! racist to Liberals and Blacks, so the Leftist media tries to hide it.

You will see this more on the local news than on national news, but it is there. For instance, Plano Police Department arrested several suspects who targeted South Asian Homes specifically. And there have been incidents in which a person verbally assaulted South Asian women at a restaurant parking lot. And then we have some national stories where on tape a person hitting an elderly Asian woman., But it is there but mostly in the local news coverage than national news coverage.

So, you are eating homemade Chinese food for Lunar New Year? The Year of the Rabbit? Dumplings? Fish? Sweet Rice Balls? Or Chinese takeout like Orange Chicken?

I don't know what your asking here, but let's get one thing straight. White people are racists and every other group is oppressed by white people. Let's not go wondering off script...

Racism is an individual situation in which culture and other socioeconomic factors are in play. And yes, Asians can get very racist at times but they do it in their native language and not English.

Much of the resentment against Asians is due to their proficiency in the scholastic arena. They consistently rate at the top of their classes. I don't think whites have a big problem with that but some blacks do, as seen by random attacks on Asians.

Lol, very good points. What makes local and what makes national news can vary especially depending on how bad the incident is.

you have an Asian person close to you, I can tell by your questions! My gf makes killer shrimp and fried noodles and veg. Never had a bad meal.
Yes we’re all getting up for new years and red envelopes and rabbit jokes, I hope you all get rich!

My spouse is Asian, Chinese to be specific. We traditionally have whole chickens, dumplings, and a few other vegetable dishes with friends who are also Chinese, usually at a restaurant for convenience.

I have a question for you. Do you mean you are not seeing it on National News Coverage or anywhere at all? Regarding national news coverage, it is probably rare because like shootings or any crime they do not make the national news unless the crime is extremely heinous. It is like we see reports of mass shooting but rarely individual murders unless there is some angle that attracts eyeballs. So we see coverage when someone has video of a person physically attacking an elderly old woman but much more common incidents will never make it on those news shows.

As another posters pointed out, @Alwayssa, you see a lot more of it on the local news. If you live in areas with high Asian populations like the San Fran Bay area you would probably see much more. Also if you use social media like TikTok you will constantly see video clips of Asians being verbally assaulted in public. Most recently there was that video that went viral with Arine Kim and her friend at In-N-Out Burger being harassed by a stranger.

I wonder, for people that live in rural areas where the Asian population is very low, would they see much coverage of Asian racial hate at all or be exposed to it? If it is not happening in your community and it is not on national news and they do not use social media they may see very little coverage.

I have personally noticed much more information regarding Asian culture in recent years that did not exist at all a decade or so ago. Our company has an Asian culture committee that put on things like the upcoming Lunar New Year Event. We have brought in speakers to talk about Asians in Tech and even Asian woman in Finance. I noticed many Asian celebrities in the news doing community events to try to lessen Asian hate and promote greater understanding of the Asian community.

I think what you are trying to imply is that we do not see as much about Asian racism as Black racism. I think maybe what the answer could be is the Asian movements are more in their infancy whereas groups working to stop racism against blacks has been around since the 60s. In time we will probably see more anti Asian hate groups and movements.

It's because Asians think Blacks are inferior.

Probably because they were persecuted to hell in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and instead of complaining they did something about it and now earn more than whites on average.

Asians are living proof that blacks can do it if they get off the pipe.

I've known all kinds of people from all races and many ethnicities and everybody is pretty much the same. Every group has another group they don't particularly like for all kinds of reasons, just like individuals don't like certain other individuals for all kinds of reasons. It just seems to be human nature and probably isn't going to change any time soon.

People are not perfect. And the ones that call out others are probably the least so.

I really cannot understand why there have been so many physical attacks on asians by blacks, but it's been something for quite a while. It's often totally random, like a sneak attack. There was a giant white woman who stabbed an asian woman the other day, can't recall where.

The other side of this is that asian cultures do not all get along. If you know what I'm talking about then this isn't news. I'm fortunate in that my SO has mostly asian friends but from more than one country. I never hear about who is better or worse, she likes everyone.

We never hear about Chinese people not liking Japanese people, and so on. Why is that I wonder?

Most be asian just hunker down and carry on. Although there have been a lot more coverage of attacks on asians in the last few years; just not as wide spread as "they arrestment because I'm black" variety.

It's not just Asians. Pretty much every continent has a version of it.

Bosnian Serbs and Kurds don't like each other, plenty of different African ethnic groups don't like each other, some Indians in the US are still prejudiced by the caste system in India. There is racial or ethnic prejudice all over the world, and that doesn't just go away as soon as someone immigrates to another country.

Most of the time this racism isn't a big deal here in the US because even though we have people from all of those groups, they aren't usually coming into contact or conflict with each other very often. The Asian community probably does more than any other though, because it is a large community, and they often start small businesses that compete with one another.

But this doesn't really change anything about the reality that the overwhelming majority of impactful racism is perpetrated by white people.

I never said it was. But it is more prevelant in the home countries than here. to give you an example, two friends of mine got married. One is Chinese. One is Japanese. Their aunts, uncles, and cousins who lived in the United States came to the wedding. The ones who refused were their parents. One is from Singapore and the other is from Japan. And the reason is cultural history. Her family was in Singapore during WW2 and from what i have been told the family suffered heavily. They have never forgotten, never going to Japan for vacation, etc. the same who is Japanese whose father still holds deep grudges toward the Chinese and any other asian, like Koreans. But somehow, he is friendly to Americans in some ways other than those who are in uniform. So, that deep resentment or hatred in culture is why they do this and why the parents refused to acknowledge that their children were getting married to someone who was NOT their own eithnicity or nationality.

Asians do not exactly treat blacks with respect, especially in their home countries. In China, what is ironic is that Kobe Bryant is very popular as well as a lot of NBA superstars. But the parents never want their daughters to date or marry them because it will be a disgrace to the family. And they have very unique derogatory words towards blacks in China, Japan, Korea etc.

But as another poster said, it is not unique, but it is sad though.

There was all kinds of stories of racism to Asians during the pandemic.

    ...
    https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=Asian+racism+during+pandemic&atb=v344-1&ia=web

    ...
But likely the real reason for not front page news all the time, is there are not as many Asians as there are Blacks.

News tends to go with stories that sell advertising. That's how they pay the bills. Advertising.

I had Korean exchange students who refused to talk to Japanese exchange students. I don't have to tell you why.
