The headline: At Least 7 Killed In Two Half Moon Bay Shootings The Link: At Least 7 Killed In Two Half Moon Bay Shootings | HuffPost Latest News The Lede: "HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (AP) — Seven people were killed in two related shootings Monday at agricultural facilities in a California coastal community south of San Francisco, marking the state’s third mass killing in eight days, including Saturday’s attack at a dance hall that killed 11 during Lunar New Year celebrations." The comment: Guns in the news. Again. And once more, our existing gun laws and their levels of enforcement, coupled with our social programs, were insufficient to avert these deaths by gunshot. In 2020, there were over 45,000 deaths by gunshot in the United States of America.* That works out, on average, to a death by gunshot in the US every 12-13 minutes. An average day is one in which there are about 120 deaths by gunshot in the US. Death by gunshot is now listed as one of the major causes of death in children.** Guns in the news. Again. 'n un-shot. * Ref.: Gun deaths in the U.S.: 10 key questions answered | Pew Research Center ** Ref.: Child and Teen Firearm Mortality in the U.S. and Peer Countries | KFF
I'm gonna repeat what I said in the other California shooting thread: at this point in my life, I've just resigned myself to the fact that mass shootings are just inherently in our nature as Americans. It's not the guns or gun laws, it's just that that's who we are as a people.
The question is, what mentally, culturally, etc. Is leading to people feeling the need to commit mass murder? Are these all copy cat crimes, with people looking for their 10 minutes of fame? What is driving people to make the decision to kill others? Is it insanity? We need to figure this out to make it stop.
I AbsaByGodLutely agree, the Cali gun laws protect no one. Which is why the gun lobby needs to quit fighting the anti-gun lobby and step up and get both sides working together to solve the problem, instead of just arguing about it and doing stupid ****.
I gotta ask...why the hell do yall just ignore shootings in Chicago? https://news.wttw.com/2023/01/23/30-people-shot-6-fatally-weekend-shootings-across-chicago-police Is it because there would be a new thread ever day? Lol. Is it because the reality is that most of the shooters and victims would be black? I'm starting to wonder.
No, but they're naturalized now and they clearly didn't bring those ideas because mass shootings are a dime a dozen here, so if anything they copied our ideas.
You prove that you're right. I see no evidence that the MAJORITY of American's want to ban guns. The MAJORITY of American's want their family's to be safe. IF the gun lobby would get on board with finding a solution to gun violence instead of calling the other side names??? WE need to work together to find a solution that works both sides.
