There have been people who knew that it was wrong but often times their voice were not regarded with any worth or value. For example, I have tow tapes of that is a copy of recordings that was done of former slaves in the U.S talking about what it was like to be a slave in America. Some were written accounts and some were that former slaves themselves telling of their experience. And in one written account that was read, a slave boy who was take away from his family to be shipped off to another plantation overheard some white women talking about how terrible this slave thing is, and chances are that little boy will never see his family again. And the slave boy when he heard that it broke his heart.

So don't the apologist fool you there were people who know that what was going on was wrong........not to mention that the slaves themselves knew what was being done to them was wrong, and the fact also that what the slave sellers and owner were doing they would not like it to be done to them what they were doing to the slaves. These were the same people that claim to be Christians in which the very Bible they claim to live by, in it Jesus said, do unto others as you would have them do to you.

Patriotic American and old GI here. I was never a Chrislamajew. Take your foreign Middle Eastern Religions and shove them up your butt. Take your silly (*)(*)(*)(*) back to the ME and keep it there.

Why must I be an adherant of some old religion from halfway across this planet in order to be a Patriotic American?

Your wide eyed belief in the tooth fairy, jesus, allah or santa or whatever is quaintly amusing.

In response to the OP, I will not recite the pledge but am most definitely American.

The Pledge is too nationalistic and authoritarian for my tastes. I owe allegiance to a number of principles - not to any number of people or a particular government. The States should be divisible, and because I do not acknowledge the existence of any God I most certainly will not invite any to take from the People the sovereignty that is rightfully theirs. As if that weren't enough, in my humble opinion the U.S. is not yet a place where there is sufficient liberty and justice for all.

But none of that really implies I feel no fondness toward the country or its denizens.
