What better day to become a true American? Believe in God and believe in America!
Say the pledge, and read it out LOUD!

Under god should have never been added, it really is a shame, a black mark on the country.

I've never said the pledge and never will until God is removed from it.

I owe my alleigance to the American Republic, not the sky fairy.

There is no longer an American Republic. It has been transformed into the Corporation of the United States or United States, Incorporated.

You're handing out US citizenships today?

    Thanks but no thanks.

Although i'm religious myself, and I think that the christian heritage which the USA shares is an important aspect of american culture, I also respect the freedom of religion and seperation of church and state, which is also an important foundation upon which the USA is founded. therefore, it is definitely possible to be a good American without being a good christian - the pledge is to the nation, not to God.

Ok. The Trail of Tears was a black mark on our country. Abu Ghraib was a black mark on our country. They're just words man. A black mark on our country? That's a bit much.

I consider letting the Christians infecting the state as reprehensible as Abu Ghraib.

Fundamentalist hypochristians desirous of putting their slogans and faith into government by plastering the name of their sky fairy onto the currency and into the pledge.

Honestly, I think Abu Ghraib is much worse. I don't understand why this bothers you so much. Do you get deeply offended when someone says God bless you after you sneeze?

if 'under god' is the idea you are leaning on, then the hand of god must be the implication.

adam smith coined the 'invisible hand'

no 'virtue' to sustain its own power and authority; it is nothing personal, its just business

I have often explained to people that that is the equivalent to saying "Bathe you in blood so your soul does not escape through your nose."

I usually follow up by suggesting that they might not want to be so archaic, especially when it's something that you have trained yourself to do as a polite reaction. In this case it has really just become a pointless gesture of faux concern.

Now that we understand what a sneeze is, there really isn't any reason to be concerned about someone if they sneeze.

I don't pledge anything to myths.

The god garbage was not part of the Pledge until 60 years ago. W3e managed to exist for almost two centuries without having to babble to invisible beings. Why would I start now?

I think that I would also take a pass on the Oath of Allegience to the Crown, but fortunately, my position in the public service is not senior enough to require it.

Did I claim there were not others that are not worse?

These words are a black mark because they defy a very important concept for government on a national level and are something that our children repeat all the time. So yes it I would certainly say it is still a black mark.

That would be the same Republic that was founded on Judeo Christian morals and values.

The Greatest Generation never said "Under God" in the Pledge while they were kicking Hitler and Tojo's ass. Were they not Americans?
