..and Australia's economy will be crippled in its competition with the rest of the world.

It will give the companies an excuse to charge us more for our power. They have a chance to get greedy and they will take it. The government should prevent them from doing this.

I support the tax. If you pollute the air, of course you should pay for the privilege of doing that!

Also with breaking news the Australian colonies have federated to form a single nation, the Commonwealth of Australia.

That requires a command economy, something anathema to free people. Regulation of pricing is not something that should be taken lightly in a society that claims to be about freedom.

(*)(*)(*)(*), my state is so free market that power companies are allowed to retroactively raise prices.

    Yeah, right...whatever.

Since Australia is the wealthiest nation in the world and the rest of the developed nations are already crippled - I really can't see that happening.

    Global warming isn't going away.

It is time to stop making it worse. That is what will really 'cripple' nations.

THe companies will charge you more for power whether there is a tax or not. THat is because they need new infrastucture. The effect of the carbon tax will be miniscule by comparison. Even less if they move away from fossil fuels - which is the whole point.

Wouldn't happen under a free market. Most electric companies are given government monopolies. In a free market, there would be competing power companies that would keep prices very low.

And the free market will take over and cheaper sources of energy will be developed.

You don't really understand the logistics of power production and distribution do you? It's a little different to making and distributing candy.
