You’ll have to show those numbers. According to Johns Hopkins our case fatality rate per 100k is lower than yours. Don’t tell me you were using TOTAL deaths. Silly goose.

And considering what is happening in AU, that sounds quite hellish from a human rights standpoint.

Oh, the numbers are quite straightforward…

The US has a population 13x that of Australia, so if the pandemic was being addressed equally in both countries, one would expect to see deaths here to be about 1/13th of that in your country…

The US has had 650,000 people perish from this disease……divide that by 13 and the result is 50,000, which is what Australia should be facing on the same scale…

At the time of writing, we had lost 1003.

For the mathematically challenged, that means that the US has a death rate 50 times greater than the Australia, allowing for population difference…

Now, let’s be generous….most infections occur in big population centres and the density in Australian cities is about half that of America’s, so let’s divide further by 2. Still leaves the US 25 times worse in their outcome…

I’ll stick to Johns Hopkins data.

    Oh, I’m sure you will….!

What number do you object to?

Do we agree that the population of the US is a little over 330 million and Australia’s is around 25 million?
Do we agree that division is the same in your country and mine and that 330 divided by 25 is approximately 13?
Do we agree that 650,000 divided by 13 is 50,000…??

So, if Australia’s deaths were in proportion with that of the US, shouldn’t we see a number approaching 50,000 deaths here…?

    We have only 1003…..

I’ll stick to highly respected research institutions specializing in health data over random internet guy twisting numbers to prove a point. It’s the same schtick another guy here did with FL stats. I’ll stick to the experts TY very much.

    What twisting….??

Please indicate where my numbers are wrong, or have been “twisted”…!

I can assure you that, as a teacher of Mathematics with a Masters in the field, it will be very embarrassing if you can point out to me where my simple calculations above are in error…??

Do we agree on the population numbers?
Do we agree that the US has lost 650,000 people to this disease? (I’m going to assume that you aren’t one of the “they were taken by aliens” nut jobs)
Do we agree that Australia has lost 1003? (might be a couple more since I last checked)

Mate, the rest is just grade school arithmetic….!

I just see you typing numbers. I prefer looking at a table created from data gathered by an institution with a reputation like Johns Hopkins. Forgive me for trusting data scientists. Prove them wrong if you choose. I’m sure you can do it.

Oh, I’m happy for you to use those John’s Hopkins data. They do indeed show that around 1 in 60 US citizens who contract the disease will die. For Australia, it is around 1 in 52. So, you are right that the US has a slightly better case fatality number……..but your problem lies in the fact that you have so many more people contracting the disease in the first place…!!

Your medical staff do as good a job as any nation, once people have the disease…but your hamfisted leadership did waaaay too little to prevent/reduce the spread of infections in the first place…
