What exactly do you think remedied slavery and discrimination if not progressivism? Conservatism means retaining traditional social institutions. Slavery and discrimination were traditional social institutions in this country, were they not?

No, it pretty much was not, and I don't know of many historians who would agree with that statement as the general consensus is and still was that the Nazis were a far right regime.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazism

"A majority of scholars identify Nazism in practice as a form of far-right politics."

    Mm, nope.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left–right_politics

I don't think you know what conservatism even means. I defined it above if you don't.

Love for a country isn't what nationalism is.

Then you are incredibly fortunate. Dealing with those (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s is incredibly frustrating.

They don't. Go to the Stormfront forums. And I'm not trying to raise a raucous here, but many of the posts and threads in the Current Events sub-forum here are incredibly similar to what you would find in Stormfront. Not necessarily because posters here are racist, but because many of posters here and many posters there are conservatives.

Yes, but I could point to many self-described Republicans, including Duke, who were/are members of the KKK. So, pointing out individual people and what party they belong to really isn't going to get us anywhere.

I think the Republicans would do well to add some actual policy plans to their conversations. Instead, we've had 6 years of "Oh my god this sucks, Obama sucks, everything he does sucks, Democrats suck, yada yada yada" while not really offering alternatives.

If they want to repeal Obamcare and get some support for it, offer an alternative. Offer THEIR plan, and have it be a REAL plan and not some throwback voucher bullcrap.

It's okay to be the opposition party but if the only thing you have to sell is opposition, you're not really offering anything better.

For better or worse, the Democrats are advancing plans. The Republicans just want to cut taxes for the rich and stop the government from regulating businesses.

When you're a political party that's having trouble with your appeal, it's time to start adding more substance. It's time to start adding things that people can get behind.

I'll even give the Republicans some help.

It would be very easy to come on TV and say "Look, we think Obamacare is bad and here's why. But we understand that health care is a major issue in this country so here is the Republican proposal for what we can do about healthcare."

Instead, it's always just "Holy (*)(*)(*)(*)ing (*)(*)(*)(*), obamacare is horrible, the sky is falling, communism, socialism, nazis, messiah, bebadabebada that's all folks".

Apparently many, many Leftwingers are hate-filled misogynists. They should embrace who and what they are rather than deny reality. This would be good for their karma.

I feel the same way about the TP.
The Koch brothers are supporting you guys because you are the footsoldiers to destroy the infrastructure and the protections of the american public. The want to see the EPA disappear because they will make billions if they don't have to deal with pollution regulations. You don't realize how much a country of this size depends on centralized control to avoid the outrageous corporate abuses that would swallow us in five years if no one was looking. You are being used by corporate interests so you can naively shout nationalistic one-liners that have nothing to do with the intricacies of governing over 300 million people and everything to do with creating a John Wayne wild west where the one who shoots fastest and straightest gets to make the rules.
The country you advocate for can not exist. It would crumble almost immediately, and the Koch brothers would laugh as they consolidated the wealth of this nation even quicker, do it with your help and with your blessing and leave you with the rest on the side of the road wondering what just happened.

Psst . . . there shouldn't be any liberal ones either. That's not what the core of Buddhism is about. Now of course I am speaking as a Taoist and not a Buddhist . . . but still.

Republicans ended slavery... not "progressivism" which is a nice way of saying Socialism. Progress != progressivism. In fact, progressivism is lunacy, since progressives are striving to try something that's been tried and failed many times before.

Yep, it pretty much was. Here, let's break it down, so it's easier to understand:

    Socialism (so·cial·ism) –noun
    1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital,… land, etc., in the community as a whole.
    2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
    3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

    Communism (com·mu·nism) –noun
    1. a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
    2. (often initial capital letter) a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
    3. (initial capital letter) the principles and practices of the Communist party.

    Fascism (fas·cism) –noun
    1. (sometimes initial capital letter) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
    2. (sometimes initial capital letter) the philosophy, principles, or methods of fascism.
    3. (initial capital letter) a fascist movement, especially the one established by Mussolini in Italy 1922–43.

    Nazism (Na·zism) –noun
    - the principles or methods of the Nazis.

    NAZI (Na·zi) –noun
    1. a member of the National Socialist German Workers’ party of Germany, which in 1933, under Adolf Hitler, seized political control of the country, suppressing all opposition and establishing a dictatorship over all cultural, economic, and political activities of the people, and promulgated belief in the supremacy of Hitler as Führer, aggressive anti-Semitism, the natural supremacy of the German people, and the establishment of Germany by superior force as a dominant world power. The party was officially abolished in 1945 at the conclusion of World War II.

What do they all have in common?

Just because Wikipedia proclaims their's a consensus on what side of the aisle historians believe NAZIs fall on, doesn't make it true. Even still, how many of those historians are professors with an agenda?

Mm, yep. Hell, Democrats (even Socialists then) in the United States loved the NAZIs until they found out it was bad to love the NAZIs.

I'm aware of what YOUR definition of Conservatism means. Mine pertains to the Constitution and abiding by it. It also pertains to Religious/Social values that I find appropriate - such as traditional marriage, freedom of religion - not from it, keeping the melting pot melted, without segregating America by culture, ending hyphenated America, etc.

Actually... that's pretty much what it is. NAZIs just gave it a bad wrap.

    Nationalism (na·tion·al·ism) –noun
    1. national spirit or aspirations.
    2. devotion and loyalty to one’s own nation; patriotism.
    3. excessive patriotism; chauvinism.
    4. the desire for national advancement or independence.
    5. the policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one’s own nation, viewed as separate from the interests of other nations or the common interests of all nations.
    6. an idiom or trait peculiar to a nation.
    7. a movement, as in the arts, based upon the folk idioms, history, aspirations, etc., of a nation.

    Seems it.

I've never even heard of Stormfront until you just mentioned them. Are you really that hard-pressed to find racists in this forum, that you're keeping an eye on Stormfront just to see if people here would post some of the same material?

Very well. Let this be the end of it, then.

Do you seriously believe that?! :roflol:
Here's a short list of valid reasons to believe she's just a moron:

    1) The only reason McCain brought her into the national spotlight in the first place was to capture the votes of Hillary supporters who were disappointed that Obama didn't select Hillary as a female VP candidate.

    2) It soon became apparent that Caribou Barbie has no idea what foreign policy is (eg: "I can see Russia from my house").

    3) "I think on a national level your Department of Law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out." --Sarah Palin, referring to a department that does not exist while attempting to explain why as president she wouldn't be subjected to the same ethics investigations that compelled her to resign as governor of Alaska

    4) She was one of the loudest fearmongerers in relation to "death panels", which turned out to be a lie.

    5) She was unable to name even a single SCOTUS decision she agreed with other than Roe vs. Wade.

    6) She thought North Korea was our ally, and we had to "stand by them".

    7) Despite having demonized such government-run programs as socialized medicine she admitted "We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada. And I think now, isn't that ironic?"

    8) She's totally unfamiliar with American history, having claimed "[Paul Revere] did warn the British. And in a shout-out, gotcha-type of question that was asked of me, I answered candidly. And I know my American history." as well as ""He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."

    9) When "Doctor" Laura Schlessinger, the talk radio host who used racial slurs against African-Americans on the air 11 times in 5 minutes, apologized and decided to retire from her highly-rated program; Caribou Barbie said ""Dr. Laura: don't retreat...reload!"

Ive been voting over 4 decades and I have never seen the lunacy that the teaparty has brought to american politics.
I dont care if your right left or inbetween, its obvious where the teapartys loyalty and demands lie and that is squarely with the rich at the expense of everyone else.
Americans have always rejected the far left and the far right and this time it wont be any different for the teaparty. The only reason they have stayed on the radar this long is the horrific amount of money that flows to them. The last election alone its estimated the teaparty pacs and donors LOST upwards to 3 billion losing to Obama. That is incredible.
Eventually the teaparty will fail totally for one reason, they simply are on the wrong side of most of america and the money cant over come that.

Anyone who isn't a completely blind partisan hack knows that all of those racist southern democrats were Conservatives.

And LOL at anyone suggesting that neo nazis and white nationalists are liberals. Those are hardcore right wingers. All of them.

I dare any conservative here to go up to a white nationalists face and call them a liberal. They'll probably laugh at you, or even get violent with you. They hate white liberals nearly as much as they hate minorities.

You people just love to parrot the lies Democrats feed you. It would be hilarious, if it weren't so sad. Maybe neo-NAZIs aren't liberals... maybe they're their own brand of politics, but real NAZIs were. Any idiot that can read, should understand that it was a Socialist Party that turned Fascist... and Fascist is just an extension of Socialism, just like Communism.

    http://www.americannaziparty.com/about/index.php

Interesting... "Social Justice." I hear that a lot from Liberals, Progressives, Democrats and Socialists. Funny how that works, isn't it?

Neo Nazis, white nationalists, southern racist democrats, were/are conservatives.

None of these racist clowns are liberals. They never have been liberals, and they never will be liberals. They hate liberals to the core, and they all identify as conservative.

This isn't lies or propaganda, it's the truth.

First, don't confuse lack of a combination of privileged private school upbringing and Ivy League college education with stupidity. As vice president [considering that the RINOsaur McCain is still in robust health] she would have had plenty of leisure time to get up to speed on all issues as the vice president since traditionally that's pretty much a four to eight years long sinecure slot.

Oh . . . and just for giggles know that many citizens of Alaska were wont to say that you could see the Soviet Union from their back door -- even when technically you could not -- because in meaningful military terms, you could pretty much reach out and 'touch' the ol' evil empire of the Cold War era. It was a saying not meant to be taken literally, which was WHY the misogynist leftwing media deliberately took it literally, in order to paint her as an idiot.

    A few points here:
    1) It is not wise to elect a politician who is unfamiliar with basic knowledge required to perform the job and HOPE that person will somehow become competent.
    2) Whether it is meant figuratively or not, being in "close proximity" to a foreign nation does not give a person qualifications in foreign policy, otherwise every citizen in a state bordering Canada or Mexico would be experts.
    3) Treating an individual female who has never made an intelligent point about anything as an idiot is not misogyny. Introducing 624 Bills regulating women's bodies in 2013 alone, while no Bills have EVER been passed regulating men's bodies... THAT is misogyny.

I absolutely agree, but it's better to do that with a vp candidate who's going to have time to grow into the job than do it with a presidential candidate who's supposed to be up and running in an intelligent and competent manner on day one . . . but in 2008 leftwingers in this nation did just that. They placed a first term U.S. senator with zero meaningful national experience and no history of leadership or management skills into the toughest and most important executive officer position on Earth based on the immature and STUPID notion that combining a deeply melodious speaking voice with the meaningless political slogan of "Hope and Change!" would somehow substitute for knowledge and experience . . . and it just wasn't enough.
