Why would Shia boycott the vote????????????? http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/25/w...election.html?_r=1&ref=world&pagewanted=print September 24, 2011 Bahrain Vote Erupts in Violence By ETHAN BRONNER JERUSALEM As the government of Bahrain held parliamentary elections Saturday, hundreds of protesters clashed with security forces while trying to make their way to Pearl Square, the site in the capital where the kingdoms pro-democracy movement got started early this year and was heavily suppressed. In the village of Sanabis, where the protest began, the police used tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets against hundreds, perhaps thousands, of protesters, witnesses and human-rights advocates said. The protest was a main part of the Shiite majoritys response to the election in the Sunni-ruled monarchy, which was boycotted by the mostly Shiite opposition. The aim of the protest was to march to Pearl Square, in Manama, where the government destroyed a 300-foot sculpture topped by a giant pearl in March after forcibly removing the protesters tent city. Security forces closed all access to Pearl Square today, Mohammed al-Maskati, president of the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights, said by telephone. The square is now like an army base. Thousands of protesters turned out in Sanabis and got attacked badly by the security forces. He said that dozens of people had been arrested on Friday and that some said they had been beaten badly. Nabeel Rajab, president of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, said in a Twitter message sent from outside the country that about 38 women protesters had been ordered detained for 45 days. Mr. Maskati added that turnout for the election was minimal as a result of the boycott and that the authorities had prevented television crews from shooting inside polling stations to avoid showing the low participation. Government accounts of the voting said the opposite, that participation was high and that the day was further evidence of the countrys return to normalcy. Eighteen members of the main opposition Wefaq party quit their posts in the 40-seat Parliament early this year. Saturdays election was aimed at replacing them and buttressing Bahrains contention that it has restored order to a country whose economy, heavily dependent on international finance, relies on a reputation for stability. Prince Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa, Bahrains prime minister, issued a statement on Saturday saying the election was proof that we are on the right path toward a better future. He added, The massive popular turnout has revealed citizens keenness to be partners in building Bahrain, boosting democracy and maintaining national unity and growth. Bahrain is more than two-thirds Shiite yet is run by a Sunni royal family. The pro-democracy movement has been heavily defined by that divide. Mr. Maskati said he and other human-rights groups would soon provide evidence of their contention that the voter turnout was low.
great leader Stalin has answered to you 50 years ago : "It's not who votes that counts. It's who counts the votes." you know better then me that a vote change nothing in Bahrain. anyone who wants to know why, go with with google : +Bahrain+form of state governance+ [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaTKDMYOBOU"]Bahrain: Shouting in the dark - YouTube[/ame]
It depends on which news outlet is reporting.. Others say the turn out was fair and uneventful. Still others say that Bahrain foiled Iran's efforts.
Maybe you should switch channels Margot. Plenty of events all over with tear gas and protests. Thousands of women one side of the highway and thousands of men covering the other side of the highway. Lots of arrests. Only 17% turnout because they said like we always said in Egypt the vote would be rigged. No point in voting. I didn't notice Najadi in Manama or any calls for Iran, just Sunni and Shia protesting aganst Khalifas rule. Teachers being given 10 years by the courts for protesting, stuff like that.
That's the whole point.. Every channel says something different.. Friends in Bahrain say its a propaganda war.
Your Bahraini friends I remember also told you that a while back Bahrain was quiet when all the channels were showing protests and tear gas so I wouldn't rely on them for information
Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have come a long, long way in the past 70 years. They are conscious of both social and economic progress as a result of stability. They will NOT allow any rebel minority to destroy their future. http://www.politicalforum.com/current-events/209712-confidence-saudi-leadership.html
BBC's Nick Gowing done an interview earlier today with one of these Khalifa brothers and sons who was some minister and left him with no foot to stand on talking about the doctors 13 minute military trial. About 5 or 6 questions and it left the Bahraini guy looking like a complete liar. Very unusual from the BBC who usually dont do that kind of thing and generally support thse dictatorships. Big applause for Nick Gowing from the BBC!!! He's still waiting for the 'evidence' the khalifa guy said he had proving the doctors conducted their coup detat from the hospital So am I! Hopefully the BBC will learn it is better to reveal the truth than follow Fox and lie to viewers.
Do you want Bahrain to end up like Yemen? Do you want to destroy their progress and economy for some hotheads? Has the Arab Spring in Egypt produced the results you wanted?
rebel majority, i can reád soviet magazines and newspapers, you are so in, you like an old school propaganda machine repeat and repeat the same lies. use old propaganda formats - double punishment ,etc i hope you got good payed , for your soul
Only fools would destroy their economy when their complaint is that they want jobs and free housing........
pretty much like the blacks in The South African Republic 20 years ago, right? maybe you will be surprised by my words but those 70 % want also - political power
I'm actually quite shocked by you over this. So you are fine with doctors and nurses being jailed for daring to treat patients in a hospital something they are required to do? You have never once supported the doctors or nurses. Each day you sound more and more like a Saudi male wahabist. Are you? If you are not then we really need to rethink what we imagine a Christian American woman to be. A serious rethink.
where did you get that news from???? they want the overthrow of the regime it was on the banners they are sick of royals gobbling up the wealth and of one family dictatorships and want to choose who rules them and be able to change that in elections you know that famous word the Americans are always using 'DEMOCRACY' the right to choose the right to vote the right to get rid of corrupt dictators when they get that right they will then sort out the jobs and housing when the wealth is shared more equally rather than princes having 20 villas and offices and land , they all can get one. The days of Royals breeding like mice and filling all the government positions and controlling nations is ending. One by one they will sink into the sand. The people WILL get their freedom just as the slaves in your USA got theirs.
The leadership of Bahrain is NOT like Mubarak or Khadaffi.. Its a constitutional monarchy. Bahrain is prosperous and successful.. These rebels are NOT the majority.. they want free housing and jobs... and they are being exploited by hardliners with Iranian interests... Before you are so keen to reduce other countries to chaos and poverty, FIX EGYPT.
http://www.politicalforum.com/current-events/209790-bahrain-walks-political-tightrope.html Have you ever been to Bahrain, litwin? Its very prosperous and open.
this a blogg...again which of main stream medias took oppressors side? which of then call opposition for "rebels", troublemakers, etc
