The other user is absolutely right about the bible and what it exposes children to and you're defending it like a 13th century Roman soldier. Sad. Pathetic. *insert other adjective here*
I could imagine the government pushing the Koran in public schools. Bet you wouldn't be defending that Mr. Religious freedom.
Here's the real question on that. Would they have allowed a Wiccan Priestess come in and lead prayers to Goddess?
And the biblical stories that contain rape and incest and genocide are topics that 8 year olds should be exposed to? You're not helping your argument here.
If banning A, B and C are about protecting kids, then that means that if the Bible contains A, B, and C it needs to be banned. Otherwise it's hypocritical.
Stop saying "banned". Nothing has been banned. The Bible doesn't have ****, ****, ******, ********er, or any other vulgarities.
The Gideons came in as a civic group not to lead prayers in classrooms. Apparently other civics groups would come in to an talk about their organizations. As for whether or not they would have allowed a Wiccan Priestess to be football coach, I doubt it. They were a football dynasty at that time. Hadn't lost a regular season game in several years. The coach was a pillar of the community type but he probably could have nailed the Wiccan Priestess in the endzone during halftime and nobody would have cared as long as they were up by a few touchdowns. That was before they implemented pass to play rules though. Those decimated the dynasty in pretty short order.
Fine, substitute "removed". Now go back to the point you made of how only some of the books removed had those words, coupled with your point of "topics an 8 year old shouldn't be exposed to." Are you going to hold true to your motivation in having those other books removed that do not have the specific vulgar words, but do have the topics an 8 year old shouldn't be exposed to enough to also have the bible removed for meeting the same criteria, or are you going to be hypocritical?
All right let me change that up a bit. Would the school have allowed the teacher, since they were the one who led the prayer, not the Gideons themselves, to have done so if they were Wiccan and invoked Goddess and not God? Same goes for the coach. Would that have been allowed, on a voluntary basis, if he was invoking other than God, say Odin for example.
I probably wouldn't mind much if the Old Testament went away. On the other hand what is wrong with a middle schooler reading it? Or reading Mein Kampf or Mao's Little Red Book or the Quran or any other classic? As opposed to activists propaganda about sex, white supremacy, trans gen, etc?
I knew you wouldn't answer it. You got put in a corner. Mr. Religious freedom is only for protecting the bible and no other religious book.
The refusal for any of them to be able to answer such simple questions is the most entertaining part of all of this lol. I guess cognitive dissonance is blinding
First, does the public school library have a Religion and Philosophy section with books from all religions and philosophies for academic study? If not then the Bible should not be there at all. Second, it seems the debate is at what age is a King James version appropriate due to content. I think that is something all books are judged on. Why should it be different for a KJB? I don't know that all the stories in that version in that text are appropriate for elementary school. I would imagine that even in church Sunday schools they teach the age appropriate stories. Third if the parent is so insistent on their child being exposed to the Bible and having one available why don't they just have one at home why is it required in the public school library?
I don't recall there being a Religion and Philosophy section in my elementary school library do you? I don't think either are necessary in an elementary school library.
Did they teach about animal ejaculate at the school you went to? What about the size of the animals genitalia? Mass genocide? Child rape and impregnation? Incest? That you are fine with that but not with a cartoon story book with two same sex penguins adopting an abandoned chick should tell everyone they need to know about your position.
