A generation ago the US was kicked out of its major bases in the Philippines. A few years ago the President of the Philippines was treating China as his new best buddy. Now the US has negotiated for four new bases in vital strategic locations in the Philippines. This represents an important step in efforts to limit China's expansionism and guarantee Taiwan's independence.

Well done Joe Biden for restoring good relations with the Philippines and well done America for improving regional security.

Joe has decades of foreign policy and understanding under his belt and is a well known and trusted politician on the world's stage. He WILL (already has) made the free world a safer, stronger place. Democracy and personal liberty are smiling...

Of course not. Then again, I have to watch my blood pressure. There are just certain people who have to feel riled up about nothing. You appear to be in that camp.

With China gaining power and putting up new bases in the "South China Sea", including the West Philippine Sea, it is a delicate balancing act for the Philippines. US presence puts some deterrence to the Chinese, but comes with its own major problems.

Totally. Iran advancing its nuclear program on our dime, ignoring sanctions and funding proxy attacks on our interests makes the world safer. Fumbling the Afghanistan exit knowing full well the Taliban was going to effortlessly take it back made the world safer. Putin, emboldened by the repeatedly demonstrated weakness of a frail and senile US President, launching his war and dangling the threat of nuclear attacks makes the world safer.

Imagine thinking a small scale, limited engagement potential bases is going to stop China after they've seen what they've seen. That's a fantasy, my friend.

Yet the invader Russia is on the ropes punching themselves into the dustbin of history and Iran and China are no match economically or militarily, not even close. Your fear of China is irrational and likely cultivated by your chosen media sources, my friend. America will never let any other nation on earth take the global helm. Joe's got this, handled.

On the ropes as reflected by the constant requirement for more US money and weapons for Ukraine?

Fascinating to see people who can't just take the win. The US has significantly improves its strategic position in a vital area for world trade and US interests and all the MAGA crowd can do is complain or snipe. Telling.

Anything we do to increase our foothold and military / intelligence presence in that part of the world is a definitive win for us.

That is very good news since China has been flexing it's muscles in the area. Goes to show how a competent POTUS negotiates.

Yup. No bombast & grandstanding, just sensible discussions. Given the position of the bases this is really significant. It helps to limit China's ability to push US & allied forces too far away from Taiwan.

Additionally, the ramping up of military production in the US to meet the demands of the Ukraine war will have knock on benefits. By expanding that capacity the ability of the US to rapidly produce weapons in time of war (or if it looks likely) improves.

All of this is a useful warning to China - invading Taiwan will be very difficult.

Both sides complain and snipe. That we will have a better military presence in the China's region is a positive thing regardless of who did it.

Money as defined by supplying aging armament, we place that value on the aging equipment. Time for new armament in the fight to keep the world free of despots and dictators.

    Nuclear weapons balance all scales.

And Brandon literally needs cue cards to tell him when to sit down, he's show them to us. The guy got lost walking from Marine1 to the WH the other week..... its a straight path with a clear view of the building and he gets lost. He forgets his name, forgets what his job is, shakes hands with thin air, sees dead people, and likes to tell stories about things that never happened. Brandon cant handle a ****ing coffee order.

Keep the fear alive, that's exactly what the Russians want. Sadly, for you, Dark Brandon is a trusted player on the world stage. Vladdie and his boy, Donnie, not so much. You hear that whine? That's Vlad riding his boy..

Or it accelerates their decision to invade Taiwan. Time will tell. If they were looking to do it, now would be the perfect time. Our stockpiles (and the world's) are running low and it will take years for that expanded military production to pan out. Right now Ukraine is going through a month's US artillery shell production in just a matter of days. The US has been buying a lot of the extras overseas or taking them out of our stockpile with the combined effect depleting NATO supplies. Even though naval and ground warfare would have different dynamics, if China were to blitzkrieg Taiwan, we wouldn't be able to drive them out on the ground any time soon and would be in the envelope of even their short range missiles while doing so. I personally think this is a backstop to contain China with Taiwan, not protect Taiwan from China. There would simply be no way to protect Taiwan without a direct attack on the Chinese mainland by the US and I don't think there will be ever political will to do that.
