https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/06/politics/merrick-garland-biden-attorney-general/index.html This just made my day !!!!
If he accepts he is giving up a lifetime appointment job at a higher salary for one with less money that may not last 4 years, if one goes by the experiences of Dirty Donalds A.G's.
I am sure this will anger the progressive wing of the party. They have never been fan of Merrick Garland. I am sure TYT will throw a fit over this one.
Good rather him than some of the radical partisans the leftwing has been demanding. So how will he appease his base?
I only like Merrick because its a poke in the face to the right. Joes showing that he's not going to play their games
Since we are talking about Garland (and by extension, the SCOTUS), here's an interesting point about the 82 YO Breyer https://www.yahoo.com/news/liberals-breyer-time-retire-142853158.html Probably a good idea, although it signals defeatism that you won't be able to hold any majorities for several more years... What say you?
The same would have been true for Yates, since Trump fired her. I think she'd be more inclined to indict Trump, that is why I preferred her. Garland 'appears' to be a real nice guy, not the kind of AG to rock the boat. But, that might be my perception of him.
I don't know... do you think anybody was shooting video of the perpetrators with cell phones?? Does that still happen in 2021?? /s
Frankly, the only 2 things I know about him is Obama wanted him and Mitch couldn't have it... But Garland's beef isn't with Trump, so if his DOJ finds legit grounds for prosecuting the former POTUS, fewer people will bitch. Retraction - Of course they'll bitch, but with 1 fewer reason....
I have thought for a long time that their should be a mandatory retirement age for SC justices. That said, the dems have always played a totally different game than the repubs. The dems try to placate everyone, and the repubs just do what needs to be done. Hence they have a 6-3 majority. Should Mitch have allowed Garland, YES, but again, he is playing hardball, and the dems are playing tennis. YES, it is defeatism. They are basically saying that they will loose the majority in 2 years
What's your preferred retirement age? 75? 80? 85? Surely it's hard to justify that when there are elected Senators older than that?
Those are good points. I would love an AG that would go after the grifters. There is an unspoken rule in Washington that you never go after your predecessor, because at some point you will be that predecessor. But Trump didn't care and went after everyone, so in this case, Im all for going after the grifter family. I truly believe that many illegal actions took place in that White House in the last 4 years. To think that the guy who literally spent his life screwing other people over in his quest for money and fame, would somehow not do that while holding literally the most powerful position in the world..........I cant buy that one. Theres a very good reason Trump hid his taxes
75 TOPS I've never understood why people actually elect people in their 70's and 80's to hold office. I get that they have "experience", but that experience is not in the modern world. Age is ALWAYS a factor for me when I vote. SC justices are appointed for life, that is where I think their should be a retirement age.
I liked your post and get your reasoning, even if I don't fully agree with the concept... But after RBG, I want Breyer to get a FULL health check if he plans on staying after 2022...
