You could always do what most people I know do. Just stop for gas when the gauge hits a quarter tank. Simple, fast and effective. Can't remember if I've ever run out of gas.
Mrs. Hays and I lived in Africa for a long time. We start looking for a gas stop when the gauge gets to half.

Define "work"! ICE sucks at the "work" of getting people to and from where they NEED to go. Electric motors can do the "work" of moving TRAINS full of FREIGHT and PEOPLE. When an ICE is doing "work" the RANGE is REDUCED in the same manner that it is for an EV. REALITY matters.
I already know the physics definition of work. He clearly knows nothing about it (and I'd guess you don't either). Regardless, I've gone through the details several times in these forums. Look them up if you've missed them.
There are claims, and there is testing. Edmunds Tested: Electric Car Range and Consumption Edmunds https://www.edmunds.com › News Nov 14, 2023 — EPA Estimates. This chart shows an electric vehicle's official EPA range and energy consumption compared to the range and ...
No, it's not ignored. Like any electric motors, they go to full torque instantly when current is supplied. At no load, current draw is at a minimum. But because you're locked at full torque, any load added raises current draw in direct proportion. This is fine in an assembly plant or a locomotive where power is coming directly from either a power plant or a diesel engine so supply can keep up with demand. But EVs have batteries with limited amounts of electricity available. Put large loads on a battery system and you'll rapidly suck the battery dry. These facts are known to any electrician or electrical engineer. An EV, any EV, has a limited amount of electrical charge on-board to work with. And before you ask, yes, you can put in bigger batteries. But bigger batteries weigh more. And all EVs already tend to be seriously heavy. You're going to have to give something up there. ICE systems modulate torque and power to only use as much fuel is needed to do the work requested. Put a 6000 lb. trailer on a Ford Lightning and the 300 mile range drops 50 to 70%. Barely enough to get to DC and probably not enough to get back. And it might take up to 2+ hours to recharge. Put the same trailer on my F150 with a 5.0L V8 and my 650+ mile range drops to probably 500 miles. Still enough to get to my mother's house near Detroit and back to probably Toledo. And gassing up again takes 10 minutes. That's the simple reason EVs can't compete with ICE. And by the way, my guess was right.
SPECIAL needs pleading ALL you have? Just because YOU cannot use an EV for your job does that mean that it doesn't work for MILLIONS of regular folk who do NOT tow TRAILERS everywhere they go. Your ANECDOTE is a LOUSY excuse NOT to have EV's available for regular COMMUTERS who can run on a SINGLE CHARGE for an entire week and then RECHARGE over the weekend. Good for them, good for the ENVIRONMENT and way LESS noise which is ALSO a GOOD thing.
https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/electric-car-range-and-consumption-epa-vs-edmunds.html NOTE that even under Edmunds TESTING there was STILL over 500 miles of RANGE! The Mercedes EXCEEDED the 350 EPA range for more than 70 MILES> 'ALL but the Tesla EXCEEDED the EPA range above/ So CHERRY PICKING that Tesla is UNDERPERFORMING exposes the FACT that virtually ALL of the REST do EXCEED their EPA ranges. REALITY matters.
What does that even mean? Nobody here, including me, has ever said EVs don't have a market, they do. Mostly wealthy commuters who live in places that can accommodate the charging needs. That's a narrow slice of the automotive market in the US. If you can do it, enjoy. But that's nowhere near everyone or everywhere. Thinking we can simply eliminate ICE in this country is merely a fool's errand. And mandating it like the current administration is trying to do is sheer idiocy.
Not seen a single article that even MENTIONS that as a goal or is that just another of your hyperbolic strawman BS that comes out of the ass of some extremist rightwing empty talking head like Sucker Carlson? The EV market is WAY BIGGER than you realize, it STARTED at the top end as it ALWAYS does and then everyone has them. Celebrities arrived at the Oscars in Toyota Prius' when they first came out, now there are over 5 MILLION of them on the road WORLDWIDE. The Auto MAKERS like EV's because they are CHEAPER to manufacture and MAINTAIN. Prices will DROP as production volume INCREASES. That is already happening in China where the same EV that sells in the west for $38k sells there for $15k because of the COMPETITION. China is all in on the EV concept and the EU is not far behind. There will be a TRANSITION of about 50 years IMO where BOTH EVs and ICE share the roads but the COST of MAINTAINING the outdated ICE technology will result in ICE vehicles becoming a Collectors Fad rather than a FUNCTIONAL daily driver.
Calm down Skippy. You might want to find out what you're talking about before embarrassing yourself. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/12/poli...ds-electric-vehicles-biden-climate/index.html That's 67% of new vehicles sold must be EVs by 2032, on the way to 100% in 2035. That's sheer idiocy. And I'm just the messenger. With 35 years as an engineer in the automotive industry.
Well, no. I-64 west of Lexington, VA is not a commuter route. I-95 south of Richmond, VA is not a commuter route, etc. etc.
As you wish. Apart from the eye-watering price, I suspect use of heating or a/c, carrying a full load of pax/luggage cuts that quite a bit. The 2023 Lucid Air starts at $82,400. That's for the Pure model with AWD. The Touring trim starts at $95,000, and the Grand Touring model begins at $125,600. And we're looking at $250K for the super-powerful Sapphire. 2023 Lucid Air Price, Reviews, Pictures & More Kelley Blue Book https://www.kbb.com › Lucid
The problem was not whether one had a ration card (we had diplomatic privileges) but rather finding an outlet with fuel to sell. This was especially important upcountry.
The UAW strike was a defining moment in the conversation in the US. As the rank and file figured out what EV production meant to their professional futures.... As the people in the US start to understand the relationships that are required for battery production, the public are demanding dissolution. The US cannot allow the CCP and China to play in the space. Why are progressives so determined to push communist China on the US?
Getting all BENT out of SHAPE about a PROPOSAL is EMBARRASSING. Has the PROPOSAL been APPROVED yet? Are you AWARE that it only STARTS to take effect in 2027? Are you UNAWARE that ALL of the AUTOMAKERS have filed REQUESTS for LOWERING the GOAL to just 40% to 50% INSTEAD. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/28/climate/epa-electric-cars-auto-industry-criticism.html The FINAL EPA regulation will PROBABLY be more in line with the Automakers because that is how this WORKS, Skippy. As I mentioned above, only ONE of us is EMBARRASING themselves and we BOTH know that it is NOT me! LOL!
