I just ordered a Barnett Ghost 400 Crossbow the other day, for about $550 below MSRP (@$650), brand new. Just today I ordered a Sig Sauer 1911 .22lr with desert drab for $450, and got a nice Uberti 1873 45LC Cattleman for $420. I was actually looking for their Hombre model, which is just blued w/o any nice finish and sells for $399, but the store had another model marked for $500 that's nicer looking, but I got $80 off because it was a display model. Pretty happy about that.
Crossbow's don't really appeal to me. If I want archery I'm more interested in a regular bow. If I'm interested in a long arm I'm more interested in a rifle. To each their own though. Got any pics to share?
How much good would a crossbow be against a zombie? They no longer have a functioning circulatory system, so simply poking holes in them will do no good at all. Same with the .22. If you want to take out a zombie, you need a .12 gauge and slugs. That way you chew them up and destroy the bones. Hard to keep coming at you when both femurs are shattered.
You shoot them in the head, with that in mind both the .22 and crossbow would work. The problem with shotgun is that they utilize large, heavy, and bulky cartridges. A .22 would actually be ideal in a long term type situation.
Why would shooting it in the head work if it's 'dead' and has no living brain? Even if a 'zombie', or Voodoo, or whatever existed in real life - only way to 'kill' one would be to chop it up into little bits, so that it could no longer move really.
Everybody knows that severing the brain stem will instantly demobilize a zombie. A 22LR with a suppressor is the best firearm you could use against zombies because it is accurate and QUIET. Stealth is a must unless you are in a fortified position and prepared for an extended onslaught.
