Nah I like living in a world where a 100lb woman can easily defend herself from a 300lb rapist. Any more ideas?
Are you implying that a rape victim is somehow morally superior to a woman who successfully defends herself with a firearm?
Whaaat?? What are you babbling about "moral superiority" FFS..... what's this got to do with moral superiority ....rape victims!!?? You seem to have a rather odd grasp on reality...but hey I guess based on the events of last night and not a few comments resulting on this thread some of you Americans do seem detached from a wider perspective.
Your reply is pretty funny but doesn't address my question at all. Guns are useful in preventing crime. Ask the CDC.
Without reading every post in this thread but let me guess a summary of how it has gone. Too early to debate what should be done, pray for the victims, blame lefties, 2nd amendment, illegals, arm teachers, allow everyone in school and in public to carry etc etc Real reason - many US civilians are just violent, helped on their way with easy access, and are immune to events like this. The next mass shooting happening next month if not sooner will be treated exactly the same
You see, we're citizens here, not subjects and take our freedoms seriously. I don't want the US to become a country where you have to show just cause and get a license just to own a fricken airgun.
Of course it doesn't, the premise of your "question" is just banal conflating amongst other factors circumstance, reality and your (I imagine) ingrained viewpoint! That's a soundbite not an argument....??
Are you indeed? You seem enslaved by an arcane ideal not a pragmatic worldview...there are many forms of "freedom"....freedom to not be shot dead in school I imagine is rather on the minds of those families that lost children yesterday for one thing! That may come over a bit trite for which I apologise but it seems apposite none the less.
Worldview. that's the issue. U.S. businesses and the military have made it seem like average citizens have anything to say about the world that is taken seriously by the fed gubment. Guess what? It's other nations, banks and powerful corporations, including some from other nations who tell the feds about their plights. Most regular citizens don't even understand the issues.
So why did this happen seeing as schools are gun free zones? Would this have happened if the teachers were armed? I am not convinced you care about pragmatism or truth.
The direction our society is taking is the main problem. It was far easier for me to get my hands on a gun when I was 12, they were left unlocked in the closet. Some of the local elementary schools had rifle ranges in the basement, there were no school shootings back then. If guns are just as easy to get a hold of now as they were then, then the guns aren't the issue. So, do we go after the guns and most likely create other problems or do we look for real causes? Can we even do anything about the real causes?
If you think banning all the guns is logical, then maybe step out of the land of unicorns and fairies.
New idea? The word "education" comes to mind. It'd be an excellent start and a marvellous improvement with great returns in the first year of implementation.
I feel for Trump our bigot in chief that so far as the shooter does not seem to be either a Muslim or a first generation American so he can not promote his hatred for either group. Not sure of the shooter skin color but unlike some posters on this thread who already is bringing up the issue of skin color/race is not something even Trump can use except indirectly by such actions as attacking mainly black football players for not being patriotic. To sum up this event is not something that Trump is likely to be able to use to promote hate and heaven forbid if he would dare to suggest more funding of mental health programs as that might cut into more taxes cuts for the wealthy.
Howabout raising the age to legally purchase a gun to the drinking age of 21. It might do some minor good.
Ask yourself the question why you need gunfree zones in the first place!! I was listening to some guy on CNN last night... a school inspector..something... anyway this fella was in charge of the schools in the district and said that schools regularly practise for this kind of event....that staggered me!! Of all the things kids can learn at school....the mind boggles. Probably would have shot them first WTF knows...again you're engaging your mindset in hackneyed narrow minded scenarios. Ask yourself why should you HAVE to ask that question? Why should you have to have armed teachers..... this is alice in wonderland stuff....you guys really are spiralling down the rabbit hole
