Restaurants in Bulgaria at night are one of the most dangerous places. It greatly depends on the location but troublesome things happen all the time. Not one restaurant where people had gun battles. I refuse to get shot by going to such a place unarmed. Now, I prefer eating at home. I got older I guess.

I also had an instance where some druggie aged 40 or more came and sat on my table and was talking about turtles and pokemons. I don't know who he is, if he has a knife. So I'll happily shoot him if he reaches. You don't have a respawn on life. And sadly you don't even have a replay.

So the gun laws are like all of the Western world. And Russia. There is no ban on having a gun, it's just that some people are more fond of guns-like Americans.

About knives, in almost all of Europe you get in big trouble if you carry a knife. It's banned and considered a 'white' weapon. And it should be like that in Bulgaria too. Who walks the street with a knife? The one who guts people depending on various circumstances.

BULIGARICA, there's something about the things you say that has me liking you. No one should feel so unsafe in their own country they will not go out and enjoy a good meal at a restaurant. As bad as America seems regarding guns and violence, I don't know of anyone who feels so threatened they will not go out to eat. My sympathy to you.

 

You don't get to decide, thankfully. And I don't expect you to understand Bulgarians, Americans, or Aussies. We're a different kind of breed. My tip for you: worry about your own country. We don't accept non-armed people very much around here. It's a cultural thing. You won't understand it even if I explain. You're already with an established belief so it's pointless I argue with you or try to explain.

Next time you come, if you come, I suggest you get a G-Wagen or a Land Rover Defender. Leave your Honda in your garage. We're mostly mountainous terrain and the potholes are too many to drive a lowered vehicle. It's your own fault that you didn't inform yourself before traveling.

And the roads are not "mine". I didn't build them, nor did I service them.

 

If you lived here long enough you develop a special ability - to spot trouble. You know restaurants and bars that are safe, and avoid those where fights and conflicts happen. There are just places where the scumbags love to hang out. It's the same with New York or any other city in the world. I'm not so positive that you like to hang around the Flatbush or Red Hook or Compton.
