At the risk of sounding unpatriotic, why should Americans (USA) get the vaccine before any other country's people?

And if you do not think that that $19.95 didn't account for R&D, there is a bridge in Arizona I'd like to sell you.

FDA has not approved the vaccinations yet. Are you suggesting we circumvent our approval process?

Part of me wonders whether we should mandate vaccines for anyone caught sneaking in at the Mexican border, assuming we can't deport them immediately.

But ... does the vaccine do anything to prevent an exposed person from infecting another person? Or do you have to be infected to retransmit, and the vaccine prevents infection?

Good. I'm sure the side effects will be mild. I say all trump supporters should get first crack at it. God bless 'em, they finally found something they're good for - clinical tests.

LOL What a silly question. Every commodity you buy factors in production costs. The UK paid the same amount per dose so did they give an upfront payment for the development of the vaccine?

Yep, they sure did. That's why we paid upfront with not even a product to purchase. The reason is Pfizer's mRNA research is among the best in the world. We've been using mRNA therapy for cancer research in active phase 3 trials for at least the last 5 years and Moderna and Pfizer have been at the forefront of this type of research. I assure you R&D is calculated for the modification of mRNA therapy. One of the reasons Pembrolizumab (ground breaking cancer drug) is so darn expensive per dose (about $15K per dose) is that Pembrolizumab is still in it's infancy and just moving into phase III and R&D cost are much greater as Pembrolizumab is being used in a much more finite capacity, unlike CMV mRNA therapy which the R&D cost can be distributed among nearly a billion doses..

AstraZeneca's is a Stem vaccination that uses adenovirus protein so it does not need to have the refrigeration like the mRNA vaccines and it's R&D cost is also substantially smaller so it's cost per dose will even be lower than mRNA vaccines..

The Pfizer vaccine patent is held by BioNTech, a German company. What you say about mRNA tech and biologics, i.e. antibody therapeutics (anything ending with an "ab" in the name) is correct, but none of it has to do with Trump. As we can see, other countries seem to get faster out the door, without the "America first" rhetoric.

Not sure I ever mentioned Trump during any of my rebuttals in this thread. If I did, I apologize as my focus on this topic revolves only around the vaccine.

The only thing holding up distribution in the US is FDA approval which has a much more stringent approval process than nearly all other nations which at times is bad, but also ensures quality. Again I ask, are you suggesting we circumvent our approval process?

Again, you are wanting to circumvent our approval process because other countries are administering the drug? I thought you all were for science!

The Pfizer vaccine is too dangerous to use. It has to be stored at minus 100 degrees. No drug store and virtually no clinic plus few trucks and delivery services have means to store or transport it - and even if so employees are not used to such. There would be no way to know if during the entire process of shipping, storing and administering it if at any time it went above minus 100 degrees. The result is unknowingly administering a dead vaccine without knowing it.

The other vaccines are not certain to result in ruined vaccinations administered to countless numbers of people having no way to know who or how many since they do not require extraordinary continuous super cold storage that almost no facility has and almost no one administering it is used to handling.

All very good but that has nothing to do with the claim US should have sole dibs because they financed R & D ( the US didn't by the way, Biontek/Pfizer refused to allow Trump any say in the vaccine development). The vaccine was already in trials before the US placed any orders through warp speed

Didn't Trump issue an EO years ago saying that non-approved drugs can be prescribed

Never claimed as such. The US is entitled to what they paid for which is guaranteed 100 million doses and access to an additional 500 million from Pfizer and another 100 million doses through Moderna with direct access to anther 400 million.

No. Actually we are marveling over the fact he didn't lock in additional doses.

Then you are in luck. Administration negotiated 100 million through Pfizer and 100 million through Moderna.

How is too dangerous to use?, long term storage is at -70 C, this can be replicated short term using dry ice for a couple of weeks refreshing the dry ice packs. After thawing it can be kept in a normal refrigerator for 5 days, the distribution model takes this into account, main distribution points able to store at -70 C then further distributed in smaller amounts where it can be kept using dry ice and then finally in a fridge.

Spin it anyway you like. That decision will cost lives.

[IMG]Trump Officials Passed Up Pfizer Offer to Sell More Vaccine Doses

    upload_2020-12-8_9-7-33.png
Trump administration officials passed when Pfizer offered in late summer to sell the U.S. government additional doses of its Covid-19 vaccine, according to people familiar with the matter. Now Pfizer may not be able to provide more of its vaccine to the United States until next June because of its commitments to other countries, they said.

He's just trying to claim credit for something he has no right to claim credit for.

In fact, Pfeizer has already announced that they will prioritize other countries, and any new order for this country won't be available until June or July. Because this administration passed on their offer to provide vaccinations for Americans.
