Breitbart News says IRS targeted company for audit

The company that runs the conservative Breitbart.com news site says the IRS has selected the network for an audit, in a move company executives suggest is politically motivated.

Breitbart News Network, a California-based company which runs several conservative websites, says the IRS recently audited its 2012 financial information.

"The Obama administration's timing on this is exquisite, but try as they might through various methods to silence us, we will only get more emboldened,” Stephen K. Bannon, executive chairman of Breitbart News Network, said in a written statement.

The audit comes as the agency faces sustained complaints that it targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny as they sought nonprofit status, before the agency ended the practice last year.

Since the practice was made public – by the IRS itself and the inspector general’s office – other conservative groups have come forward claiming they were subjected to unwarranted scrutiny by the agency.

In this case, it remains unclear whether the apparent audit of Breitbart News is anything out of the ordinary. The IRS conducts audits of tens of thousands of businesses every year.

The agency said in a statement: "Federal privacy laws prohibit the IRS from commenting on specific taxpayer situations. The IRS stresses that audits are based on the information related to tax returns and the underlying tax law -- nothing else. Audits are handled by career, non-partisan civil servants, and the IRS has safeguards in place to protect the exam process."

A copy of the IRS notice to Breitbart News, obtained by FoxNews.com, asked about the company’s financial information for calendar year 2012.

The IRS asked for a litany of documents, including logs of its receipts and expenses, but also its partnership agreement and a “written narrative” of the business.

Wow! Even while being investigated for corruption related to a presidential election cycle the Obama controlled IRS doubles down on the politically partisan attacks against the Right. I . . . am . . . impressed.

 

In your first statement you stated that the company executives "suggested" it was politically motivated. Which means absolutely nothing because suggesting something as fact, is worth squat. That being said, without any real details of the audit, your partisan addiction is exposed once again with your last statement, which concludes with a typical government interference comment, with nothing credible to back up your statement. You have no real facts related to the audit, but ha, no need to stop feeding that hate addiction. No need to let that addiction get cold right? Anything to stoke the fire as usual.

 

I understand that their main frame hard drives and the Exec O's personal computer suddenly crashed and were wiped clean. Information is not recoverable. Do you think the IRS would believe them?

Yea, it's just like everything else with them. They gin up some nonsense suggestion as fact, only to find out it was all a bunch of hype to get everyone on the right all stirred up for nothing. And then, they look for something else to get riled up about. It's pathetic. Which is exactly what happened with the entire IRS scandal. They're so consumed with hate, all they can envision in their shallow minded world, is a real lynch mob for Obama without a trial and without any reason for hanging the guy. Hate has totally taken over their minds and their souls. It's really a tragic state of affairs to be that obsessed with hate. I know of no president that was hated this much. And they make it so darn obvious.

 

NO PROBLEM . All they have to do is ask Lois Lerner to consult for them . She knows how to handle the IRS.

If Breitbart complied with the law it has nothing to fear. I suspect Fox is beating the bushes to try to head off an investigation into Fox's tax records by thrusting forward their surrogates as human sacrifices.

 

I believe people should pay their taxes. Not many people enjoy paying them so somebody has to enforce the rules.

 

Limbaugh figured that out back in the 1980's. It's not the news that counts, it's the outrage.

Facts aren't important.

The right wing audience here never seems to be phases by the fact that the stories they really want to believe and respond to frequenly turn out to be false, and that many are outright lies.

They never mind when Fox and Limbaugh's predictions never pan out.

You would think after being lied to and having right wing pundits repeately make pronouncements and predictions that never come to pass, they'd realize that these people either don't know what they're talking about or they're liars.

Not surprising that Breitbart is being audited. They of course have to be on Obama's enemies list.

One has to question whether or not Slate, Move, Media Matters, Daily Kos, or any of the other Left Wing propaganda operations have been audited recently by the IRS? A quick look says No! they have not been audited. So has the IRS become the political arm of the Democratic Socialist Marxist Party? The majority of Americans believe so.
