If you have more of a twisted mind, the other song that I was taught during my CPR training to keep with that particular rate is "Another One Bites The Dust".

    I hope he recovers.

Its funny how things work. If you collapse in your living room, or in at a shopping mall, like thousands of other Americans do every day, people would not take notice, but collapse on nationally televised football game, and you'll be in everyone's prayers and donations.

Like most NFL players, he is paid millions, and now people have collected another $3 million in a GoFundMe account.

    Thoughts and prayers.

Yes! Its a life-saving skill. People think you just need to massage the chest like they do in the movies, but you actually have to press down pretty hard. I was once told "if you didn't break a rib, you didn't do it hard enough".

I don't have a good feeling that he will recover. I sure hope I am wrong about this.

I was surfing thru some coverage this morning, and one can argue it's fortunate this happened where it did. NFL stadiums have - on average - 29 medical professionals onsite for every game. Including specialists in internal medicine & intubation. He was being tended to almost immediately and was only 2 miles away from a world class trauma center, with an ambulance standing by. You'd be hard pressed to see that level & immediacy of care being made available to most people. Good on the NFL for their policies in that regard.

The game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals had to be suspended due to this tragedy in which Bill safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest of something. I hope he survives.

Here is a tragic time that happened in the NFL over 50 years ago, involving a wide receiver Chuck Hughes of the Detroit Lions:

On October 24, 1971, the Detroit Lions hosted the Chicago Bears at Tiger Stadium. Late in the 4th quarter, with Detroit trailing 28–23, the Lions were driving into Chicago territory and Wide Receiver Chuck Hughes, who entered the game as an injury replacement, caught a pass from quarterback Greg Landry for 32 yards and a first down at the Bears' 37-yard line.

Three plays later, Landry threw a pass that tight end Charlie Sanders dropped near the end zone. Hughes, a decoy on the play, began running back to the huddle with 1:02 showing on the clock. Suddenly, he dropped to the turf clutching his chest around the 20-yard line. Hughes collapsed near Bears linebacker Dick Butkus, who saw him begin to convulse violently on the field. Butkus motioned to the sideline frantically to get Hughes assistance.

Both teams' doctors and trainers, along with a physician who happened to be attending the game, ran to Hughes to try to save him. An ambulance was called for and arrived to take Hughes to Henry Ford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:34 pm that afternoon. He was 28 years old. The game was played to its conclusion in front of a now-stunned silent crowd in Tiger Stadium, with the Bears' lead holding. The Lions awaited word of Hughes' condition after the game and the players were informed once word had broken that he was dead.

A postmortem examination revealed that Hughes was suffering from undiagnosed and advanced arteriosclerosis (one of his coronary arteries was 75% blocked) and that he had a family history of heart disease. The direct cause of death was a coronary thrombosis, which caused a massive myocardial infarction that cut off the blood flow to his heart. Hughes was buried in San Antonio, Texas, and all 40 of his Lions teammates attended his funeral, including head coach Joe Schmidt. He was survived by his widow, Sharon Leah, and by his son, who was 1 year and 11 months old at the time, Brandon Shane.[3] A $10,000 trust fund was set up for his son by an insurance company. His widow filed a $21.5 million malpractice lawsuit against Henry Ford Hospital in 1972 for not diagnosing his condition when he was hospitalized after complaining of chest pains. The lawsuit was settled on October 3, 1974, for an undisclosed amount of money.

The Lions retired uniform number "85" for Hughes' honor.

Actually it is now considered a bit too slow as it is only 100 beats a minute and the recommendation is 100- 120 compressions a minute and staying alive is on the slower side of that

But the one not listed which everyone knows is “Jingle bells” but any fast song would do as long as it helps keep the rhythm up.

Most of us have rolled our eyes at what elite pro athletes get paid, and I'm one of them. NFL players are my exception to that rule. The Tom Bradys of the world notwithstanding, the average NFL career is 3.3 years long (according to google). The average NFL rookie contract is 4 years. Guys like Hamlin drafted in the later rounds enjoy a 6 figure salary for a very brief period, and then it's over - and not because they got tired of living their dream. Hamlin is a second year player. I've seen it reported that CPR was administered for 9 minutes. If that's accurate, that does not bode well for his career, and quite possibly his life.

All we can do for now is keep Damar Hamlin in your thoughts and prayers. I encourage fans of the Buffalo Bills Football team to do the same.

I'm posting this only because the Seahawks are my team, and it wound up in my feed. Some relevant insights from an NFL team physician, & I'll repeat what I posted earlier: it appears very lucky Hamlin collapsed where he did. The best possible care & treatment was administered immediately.

I don't do Tik Tok, but a friend who does tells me the physician who administered the shot to Mr. Hamlin declared on Tik Tok that he administered a booster to the man in late December.

The physician who administered the shot to Hamlin on 12/26 was Benjamin Eidelman. Two friends have sent emails with links to TikTok. Apologies for not being able to link to it.

Happy, hopeful news. Damar, while still critical, continues to do well and is showing signs of waking up. His neurological health is intact according to Dr. Wm. Knight, one of his attending physicians at the Cincinnati College of Medicine. :)

Fingers crossed for sure. That 9 minute CPR duration (if accurately reported) is a little scary.

He's not able to speak yet because the ventillator is still in place, but he was able to write. One of the things he asked was who won the game on Monday night.

Just saw an update and it's encouraging, writing, opening eyes, moving fingers. Still critical, of course, but moving in the right direction
