I don't think I'm being "bested" at all. I think the arguments put forward are bordering on bizzare and definately irresponsible given the "threats" that are supposedly being prepared for are next to non existent. As far as the home situation, all I know is it's two people in the home.....who comes and goes (like you mentioned in your home) is an unknown factor but regardless doesn't really justify the situation.
Given what you said about your own home....do you have guns stashed all around your home?

Because of the prevalence of broken homes, parents who don't give a **** about their children and have no business being parents, no one is willing to report their family member for torturing animals or soliciting a felony level crime from them.
